Subject: water foam for bow of ship

menschtx ( ) posted Wed, 21 November 2007 at 6:52 AM · edited Sun, 10 November 2024 at 2:46 PM

Are there any tutorials on water foam for bow of ship, the bulbous mound of foam from the bow of a ship. I am working on one but keep getting a form resembling a square. Any ideas?

The only way I got a decent foam was to use PSP or PS, not sure if I remember exactly what I did, was a while ago. I'm going away for a few days so I won't be able to help. I'm sure someone else will tho. Not sure if you were looking to do it in Bryce or postwork either.
Good luck :)

I'm pretty sure there is a tute at Daz for this.  I remember looking at it a few months ago and it does use terrains and shows the setting to make it look like water.  As I recall..it was an excellent guide.

There's a very good tut on this by our own mod, Zhann.

Try here: http://zhannsartwerx.com/za/seasprint.html

It's her 'Raging Seas' tutorial, seas AND foam and spray.

It is, isn't it?  It's one of the first tuts I ever did, it was really a bit ahead of me, but I insisted in poking my nose into it - it was so much more fun than learning how to texture a sphere or cut a shpere out of a sphere... duh...

And it was easy enough (just) for me to actually acomplish something.

I've always liked the water effect Max- does for his Russian sub renders: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1482684&member

You could also try these free ship wakes from SpaceBones, they are quite good.

Some of the wave and foam effects towards the end of this tute by Zhann might suit you.

Ahhhh! Knew I doubled up for some reason! (just kidding Fran) Glad to help, enjoy, it  is a fun  tute!

Thanks ... I took a look at the tut and it's really good... Was trying to do some seascape like I used to a long time ago (using oil paint and brush. Really caveperson way. :m_wink: ) Might give it a try.
