I recently saw IE7 now becoming a "mandatory" update of sorts from microsoft.  I tried the beta last year and it was buggy as hell so I went back to IE6.  Now usually I belong to the "If it aint broke, dont fix it" philosophy, but I read IE7 is now more stable and has a little better security than IE6.  Has anyone been using it and is it acting nice with most sites they have visited ?

not in the slightest. still a buggy crapfest.... do what I did.. let it install then never use it...

Nope.  It's a load of bollocks.  I mistakenly installed it and hope someone will tell me how to get rid of it.  I just want IE6 back.

I've been using it for some time now & I've had no problems with it that I'm aware of.

Unlike Khai and SamTherapy (both of whom I respect greatly) I love my IE7 and wouldn't be without it.  I don't have any problems with it ... probably because I'm used to it by now.  I know Firefox was the leader in tabbed browsing but, for some reason, I could never get the hang of it even though I've been a "power user" for quite a while.  When IE7 came along I downloaded the beta and then installed the final release and love it.

Weeeelll... I don't do tabbed browsing and I don't like losing another chunk of screen to an extra function bar at the top of the page.  Yeah, I could switch it off but then I lose half the functions I use.  The menu items and icons are like a madman's shit (ie all over the place) and I can't find a way of moving them together.  I also don't like the intrusive "Are you sure..." messages that keep cropping up.  Yes, I'm bloody well sure, otherwise I wouldn't have done it, would I?  Christ on toast.

Apart from that, it's just great and I highly recommend it. :biggrin:

Oh, one good thing about it... at least the DAZ site doesn't nag me any more. :rolleyes:

I've been using IE7 for quite a while. Not too bad. Not that much better or worse then IE6.
I like tabbed browsing. Looking back, I don't know how I ever did without it :)
Just like any updated thing, you'll need to give yourelf few days to get used to it.

Actually, I take that back about losing an extra bit of screen.  It just seems that way because of the stupid layout.  I still think it's a load of arse biscuits, though.

sorry.. I'm just down on IE7 atm

one of my machines (Delenn) blew out her Xp install after a 400GB SATA died on her and we attempted to correct a setup mistake I made in BIOS (I had set the FSB to low) - ended up with the XP going 'I can't take it anymore!!' and going into an endless reboot cycle...

ah well, these things happen, no biggie.

I reinstall her.. but while i was doing so, IE 7 decided (on it's own! I never went to anyother site than Windows Update), to let some asshole load in some Malware that after 3 days of trying to kill it, (nothing could touch it since the makers keep updating the fucking thing) I had reformat and start again.

you know? firefox ain't perfect (I'll be the first to admit that) but IE 7 leaks like a fucking sieve!

No problems here with IE7, and I love it, and prefer it over the older IE6

I must admit I love tab browsing, so much easier. Another big plus for this is that because you use tabs it takes up less memory which is useful if you're surfing the net while rendering.

Using two computers is another good way of reducing the memory overhead when rendering. :biggrin:

IE7 isn't my favourite browser but I will use it from time to time, mostly for Windows Update though. Firefox isn't that great either at the moment, this latest version is giving me major headaches with freezes & random crashes.

Firefox and Opera both have tabbed browsing. 

When rendering I browse on another computer.  But not everyone has multiple computers, especially after spending the $ to buy one that works well for Poser.

I personally wouldn't cross the road to piss on it if it were on fire.  Bug ridden heap of security holes masquerading as a Firefox ripoff :)

Ie7 is more hijack prone than 6 as a friend and his son where round and i let him use the computer to check his school work and check some sites for school work.
Even with the highest security settings he went 1 site check on history and IE7 allowed a download to hijack explorer, now yes under 98 i used to set up so no scripts would run but what was funny if you wanted remove hijack of IE7 you had purchase a program or do it yourself.
Good old Microsoft wont even release any software free to get rid of explorer being hijacked, as i use FireFox and opera, though if you want update windows you have use your hijacked IE7.
Already Microsoft updates have screwed some peoples computers up and what happen to business community especially on servers thanks to Microsoft auto installing search software.
I wont even touch IE8 as it will be as bad as 7.

I have it installed but use Opera here and elsewhere unless I get a message that it isn't compatible. Or, if I need to do an email thing. Opera doesn't have a good text editor like IE. Love tabbed browsing but I like Opera's Speed Dial better and their quick password wand. Great zoom features for old eyes like mine, IE has that too on V.7 but the Yahoo IE browser doesn't and when it increases text it makes a mess...sigh. So it depends on what you want to use it for. Install it but get Opera or Firefox as the main browser to better protect yourself from a few nasties. But remember, even they sometimes fall under attack by virus bugs.

I have it installed and never use it - I much prefer Mozilla Firefox!

I installed IE7 a couple of weeks ago, and I'm glad I did. My HTAs have never looked better (transparent PNGs!).

Oh, you guys are talking about online web browser usage? Firefox 2 here.

I have IE neutered, and the Windows Messenger service disabled (not to be confused with MSN Messenger, which I also don't use). IE+Windows Messenger is one hell of a superfast highway for malware. Even if you still want to use IE, please do yourself a favor and disable the messenger service; here's how to do so.

I did used IE7 for one day, the browsing was so slow, to many crashes all the time I give up and I am back to FireFox it still the most fasted for loading pages....
O keep IE for access only Microsoft pages that don't support other browsers sometimes...

I've been using it for ages and it's fine. But as R_Hatch said, get rid of the messanger service.

I tried it out and hated it, I found the interface very counter-intuitive and not a good use of screenspace.

I've loved tabbed browsing since I was an early adopter of Opera back in the day but IE7 is just MS's unimaginative, lazy-ass version. "Oh... everyone is saying they want tabbed browsing. How can we cram that into our next release WITHOUT adding any of the features that make Firefox so user-friendly, secure and useful?"

I ended up uninstalling it as a secondary problem is that it won't play nice with some of Google's webmaster tools. You can find a how-to here.
