Subject: Got my New Camera

iloco ( ) posted Sun, 25 November 2007 at 1:40 PM · edited Mon, 10 February 2025 at 10:28 AM

I started to buy a 40D but decide to pass and get the Rebel XTi and buy a couple real nice lens for it.
I may upgrade in another year and buy the 40D body only and use the good lens I am going to buy for the XTi.
First will be the 28-135 IS and then a good 300 MM and a 10-22.  Those should be all I will need for a long time.  O forgot will get the 50mm f1.4 since its so cheap and has good reviews. :)

I took a couple pic with the 18-55 kit lens and they are much better than the ones I been getting with my Oly point and shoot I been using for last 4 years. :)

Congrats on the purchase. I'm sure you'll have a great time with it. Can't wait to see some pics from your new camera.

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

Yup - going to get some great quality out of those combo's... even the f1.8 50mm is good and is even cheaper! Congrats on the new purchase and get out there and learn your camera - should be great. Read the manual, and then read it again... when the time comes that you read about some technique you want to try, you will remember that it was in the manual and that your camera can do it and you will probably try it out (After again reading the manual😉).

Have fun with it 😄

Rich has a good point about the manual.  We have stuff packed in boxes around here after(and while) redoing the home.  I couldn't find the manual for my D200 and shouldn't need it after the time I have had the camera. But..found I needed it.  So, downloaded the .pfd version of the manual.

It is not a bad idea to keep it in the camera bag for a while.

Good wishes with the fine choices and best shooting! Go for it!       TomDart.

Thanks everyone.  I did download the pdf manual and have alread put the one that came with camera in my new Lowepro sling 200  bag. :)
All set now to learn slr again. Digital has so much more to offer than older film type slr's. :)

I believe you will have a blast and if and when the upgrade comes...you will have a trusty second camera and lenses with which you are familiar.  I use both my newer camera and the older D70 all the time.  The older one is my carry camera for everyday.  Works well this way.  Again, congrats and best wishes.       TomDart.

WOW - what a stck of kit!!! And a Sling bag!!!

The kit lens will most certainly be an upgrade from the point and shoot but you'll see what an upgrade the 28 - 105 lens is compared to the kit lens.

Happy times and fun with your new 'toys'.

Changed my mind on the 28-135 and ordered a 17-85 IS instead.  After reading lot reviews this lens was made for the XTi.400D and 20-40D line of cameras and from what I can read is lot better for clearer pics.
Since I will be getting a 70-300 a little later I will be covered pretty good for middle and high end. :)
One reason I needed the low end is for taking pics at Christmas in the house where the 17 vs the 28 should be better for this. :)

With 2 day shipping from Amazon I will have it wednesday. :)
