Well my four year leave of absense is over. This weekend I installed Poser 5, DAZ Studio, and all my poser products. Aside from the headaches cause by Vista and the constant cashing Windows Explorer things have moved smoothly and I'm ready to get back to "work."

I do have a couple of questions, however, that I hope that someone can help me out with. First and foremost, should I upgrade to Poser 7? I had my fair share of issues with P5, but is the upgrade worth it?

Secondly, I've been toying around with DAZ Studio, and while I really like the interface, I'm not too crazy about the final renders with 3Delight. I am familiar with 3Delight as I have used the "stand-alone" product and I know it is capable of some pretty amazing results. Any tips on rendering with D|S?

Well, I guess that's enough for now. To all those I once knew, "HOWDY" and to those I don't, I look forward to meeting you.

Thanks!

Welcome back :-)

Yes, upgrade to P7. You've got ambient occlusion, fake SSS, material collections, area render, point lighting, IBL and a whole load of other goodies to get your hands on!

About D|S I don't know, but we do have a D|S forum now, see attached link.

Sounds like some pretty nifty features in P7 (I found the "features" page at E-Frontier as well). Looks like I'll be upgrading. Thanks for the D|S link. Things have changed a lot while I was gone :)

Keep in mind that a new version of Poser called Poser Pro is due out sometime in the next little while, perhaps within a few weeks.  However: there are supposed to be upgrade deals for P7 owners -- so if you upgrade to P7 now, then you'll likely be able to get Poser Pro at a reduced price.

And welcome back! 👍

Welcome back! We've never met but I'm a motor mouth and have way too much time on my hands so I practically live here :)

PoserPro does seem to have a nice feature set, but I'm most interested in the integration with Maya. To have a workflow from Poser to Maya would be awesome not to mention the HDR export. I'd be interested in seeing the pricing between P7 and PPro.

Thanks for the warm welcome all. It feels nice being back "home."
