I guess you're looking for something like this:
http://www.hvchemical.com/stands-rings-clamps.htm
But that one is US based.
I think your best bet is to look at lab equipment. This one seems based in de UK

In the UK you could try GLS or Philip Harris (Educational) or a company called SciMart which is probably the cheapest. I've used all of these suppliers myself (I work for a school) and the have websites that are easily found. I have a set of stands bosses and clamps that I use at home for my own work and they are very useful.
I noticed that inshaala was looking for,
clamp stands
I'm sure that Smith-Victor has what he needs -- although what they have
may not be what he wants (might be too expensive) ... LOL
OTOH, Edmund Scientific or Fisher Scientific might have what he wants.
Give all three a try ...

Thanks Rinze, that site was perfect. Once i get the light gate (i ordered it on friday) i can see what size of clamp i need and then can get the equipment in to start shooting some motion captures :)
Mark the first two i looked at were purely educational resellers as far as i could gather so i doubt a crazy photographer would be on their customer list :) The other one i checked out and it might be ok for you knowing the technical names but it didnt have many pictures of what i was buying so i had no idea (a lesson there for sites who want to sell something - i had this problem when looking for poster hanging systems for my stall - they were all diagrams and no shots of what they looked like in real life).
a=And thanks for the input Martin, but they all are US companies, shipping heavy stuff from the states is bad idea... (will bookmark that photography equipment page for future reference tho )

Rich If you don't come right with those suggestions, I reckon contact a local High School and ask them their supplier is or if they can find out...

Would any of these work for you?
Calumet in general may be a bit on the pricier side, but they're an incredible resource!
Hey - you're now a Forum Coordinator! Cool!
Hope this helps-

Okay, just watched the video - the above links are for clamps with standard light fixtures.
But thinking about it, there are plenty of flashes out there with mini phono-plug connections (what was used in the video - and on another note they tend to be fairly cheap to buy). Would it be possible to attach $100 mic setup with a phono-plug, set your camera on bulb and do the same thing?
I have no idea if this would work - just wondering out loud...

Just wondering if anyone knows where i can get hold of clamp stands online (UK btw)- i looked but it seems either i am getting something expensive or some kids "science kit" and i dont want either. I am looking for what i think is called a clamp and support stand (from my school days)... that thing which has a metal plate with a pole coming out from it which you attach a clamp to with screws... I expect it shouldnt cost more than the postage for the thing because they are quite heavy.
Basically i need something to hold my recently purchased light gate (see other thread), and wondered if anyone else has something like this at home - or have used something else in their setup?
