Subject: November Challenge - DIPTYCH/TRIPTYCH

**Hello, Everyone!

Viv asked me to start this thread —

** **rules etc. to follow soon...

The theme for November is Diptych/Triptych.****

From the  ArtLex  website:

diptych — "A picture or bas-relief made of two panels hinged together, often an altarpiece. Also, any picture consisting of two individual surfaces."

triptych *— "A painting or carving that has three side-by-side parts, panels, or canvases. Typically, a triptych has three hinged panels, the two outer panels designed so that they can be folded in towards the central one.

A triptych can also be, more loosely, something composed or presented in three parts or sections.

'Triptych' has come to us from the Greek 'triptychos,' formed by combining 'tri-' ('three') and 'ptyche' ('fold' or 'layer'). Although 'triptych' originally described a specific type of Roman writing tablet that had three hinged panels, it makes sense that the word was adopted first for a three-paneled painting, and then to include anything composed of three parts. 'Triptych' can even be used as a synonym for 'trilogy.'"*****

Visit  ArtLex.com  for more information and some example images of each.**

November Challenge - DIPTYCH/TRIPTYCH

Thanks, Denger, for coming up with a terrific theme!  I think it will be a great challenge!  Thanks also for providing some good info for everyone.

Let's run this until the last week of November, I will give you a day or so heads up and if anyone needs more time they can let me know.  You may enter an existing work if you like, but we would prefer to see a new work created for this challenge... it IS a challenge after all, lol!  You may enter more than one work, but remember that in the voting, each entry will be judged separately.  Please, please, please put titles on your entries, especially if you have more than one.

Let your imagination flow!!!

Ah, now this is indeed a challenge. I'll see if I can dash off a trilogy before the deadline. Something along the lines of the Lord of the Rings, perhaps. ;-) Just kidding.

I actually have an idea cooking, but it's still in the fermentation stage. This should be an interesting one. Congrats on last month's win, by the way. ~jon

Leave it to Kort to come up with teriffic frost covered trees in the steamy south.  This looks like a fun challenge.

A splendid idea with the little angel and so well done  triptych. Lovely view.

A really sweet idea with the Ghost  too. I am sure you had fun :)

Valou, I really do like your image, the first you posted here.  The idea of three together makes us think of three apart but together.  You and koosievantutte have posted it all within one image and that works very well, very well indeed.        Tom

Triptych Cloud.  This is photography, what I do mostly.  The graphic display is quite simple..you see, I did not have one to photograph.  LOL

Perspective was applied to the side panels but without seeing the original, that is dificult to discern.

babuci ( ) posted Sun, 25 November 2007 at 11:01 PM

@ Tom! I know how you feel about using our photography talent for these challenges. I find it difficult sometimes "create" something smashing and makes sure stand out work. You doing a marvelous job IMO. I realy got my eye on a running post and a cloud triptych is  looks great. Never thoght of using one picture and dividing it and playing with perspective, very creative, like a bay window view.
