Subject: Brycetech Tutorials?

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Wed, 21 November 2007 at 2:49 PM · edited Tue, 14 January 2025 at 9:08 AM

I have been in contact with Brycetech about his tutorials, as I went hunting for them but found only broken links.

He has asked that anyone who is still interested in his Bryce Tutorials reply to this thread, saying so, if enough people still want them he's promised to make them available again.

So come on everyone, say it here.

I personally used to have them all, but no more (PC etc all gone)

I particularly wanted the 'spaceship material' one.

Unfortunately I can't remember with any specifics what any of the others were, since even the lists are now missing.

But anything on the DTE or Lights would be nice.

??I thought DAZ had taken over handling the hosting/support for Dave's Brycetech site???? 'Wa'happened??? Brycetech tutorials are one of the first places we at Delphi have ALWAYS sent newbies to for reference and understanding. Put my voice in the choir on this one!

If you follow a link to Brycetech.com for tutorials - you just get a page at Daz saying -
We're sorry the file you are looking for no longer exists or has been moved.

You asked for:

http://www.brycetech.com/tutorials.html

We couldn't find it. If you really think this should have been here, please Contact Us.

So I asked Brycetech himself.

I poo poo'd his tuts sometime ago. Because I felt I was beyond that stuff. But the fact is he does our community a great service. He is as far as I can tell the only real resource out there for beginners.

Let's face it. Most people starting out in 3D are not getting it the same way most of us started out. I want to my local MAC store. Not the Apple store of today, saw Bryce 2. Bought it and learned for the tutorial book that came with the program.  And when we went out looking for resources to expand my knowlage Brycetech was there.

So I guess what I'm tying to say is there is still a need for him in the world. So don't stop doing what you do. DAZ for sure isn't going to do it.

I went through the lot of them starting out, was a very valuable resource.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

It will be a loss to the Bryce community if they're not made available somewhere!

skiwillgee ( ) posted Wed, 21 November 2007 at 9:01 PM

Yes, Brycetech, please make your tuts available.  They should be packaged with all Bryce purchases.

bobbystahr ( ) posted Thu, 22 November 2007 at 12:19 AM

Yes indeedy, and as the guy who approves a lot of the tutorials I would heartily welcome them in that section.

Just thought of this; I've been going through tutorials to get off this @#$% plateau I'm stuck on...;) I've found a few through the Wayback machine. Just copy the original URL to the search field, and more times than not, it will give you results.

Just took me own advice. Go here, young woman...;)

My vote for saving the tutes, I cant remember them specifically but I will be a part of anything to fill the vacant parts of my brain.

deadwarrior ( ) posted Thu, 22 November 2007 at 8:53 PM

Those were some of the first tutorials for Bryce that I ever used.

Helped me make sense of that weird interface, (at least I thought it was weird; I'd been using POVray and Moray up to then) ;)

If you're just starting in Bryce their indispensible.

You've got my vote.

Whoa I heard about something like this - nice and a bit scarry to know there's a ring of truth to the rumours that everything on the net has been archived somewhere.

Off in the distant past I can just hear the dying echos of Mr PeabodyMouse saying "Come Sherman, today we're off to 1861 to see how version 0.0001 of Bryce was created implimenting only a wooden computer and still photography; it's influence on the great American secession and how the use of said program led to the invention of Lincoln Logs"

. . .

Thanks Pakled !!! You've certainly earned your 'tree-fiddy' today.

. . . I still votes for saving the tutorials, though.

THEY'RE ALL CORRUPTED!
I'se sorry, but every zip file from the Wayback archive can't be opened...sigh...thought that was tooeasy. My apologies

Everything (nearly) is archived, but not always in workable condition. To be honest, it's usually text and pictures, actual files don't get backed up that often.

I was sort of wondering - if Brycetech didn't mind - I was wondering is maybe the Bryce backroom here could host them? or doesn't it work like that?

I will like to lend my voice to the outcry... Bring back BT's tuts! On almost every tutorial resource page, there was always a link or lots of links to BT's tutorials. Imagine my chargrin when I got those dreaded

GRRRRRR!!!! I was so :m_angry:  that I started  :m_bawling:  I'm alright now, knowing that BT is still among the living... I don't have to :m_whine: anymore... :m_laugh:

Thanks for that tip for the trip to wayback site... I saved a few pages of the tuts.

Well thank goodness for that.

I just hope we'll be able to find "All Brycetech Tutorials" when we want to, cos they don't seem to be too good at organising over at Daz, & it used to be laid out so simply on "brycetech.com"

Most of the pictures are gone. But you can make out what it is you have to do if you're already familiar with Bryce. Some of the links are still good as are some of the download files which has textures and images and maps, etc. Not all of the zipped files are good. It's like finding gold or platinum  under a lot of p**p. Just have to take a chance and see.  Anyway, some of those files are like version 4 but you can still use it if you know how.

Just spent the last 3 hours going thru the wayback site looking thru the website and saving the pages from the tuts. Now I know how to make Bryce rain! :m_coolsmirk:

Ok I was reading the thread and scratching my head. It’s been a few day from the first post but I was checking and http://brycetech.com/ is up and running and http://brycetech.daz3d.com/. http://www.brycetech.com/tutorials.html is a no go. I would not like to see anything happen to Brycetech Tutorials. I think thy should be required reading I learned more on those Tutorials then and of the written stuff that I got with Bryce.
