Subject: Clay Models of your Characters, interested?

Boni ( ) posted Tue, 05 June 2001 at 10:22 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 6:09 PM

I've posted this in the Character Creator's section as well. I hope that isn't over done. I was wondering if y'all might be interested in have your poser models created in clay? A unique model of 3 to 5 or 6 inches tall. How much would you be willing to pay for a one of a kind item like that? I've been an artist all my life ... I'm returning to my creative roots and wonder if this is a viable direction. :) Boni

Wow - What a cool idea. I'd love a 12" Preditor model. ;) I know that would run some big bucks though. Boni - Do you do work like that? or Could you do a Preditor figure? Clint

If I could get several images from different angles, I don't see why I couldn't make almost any model available. It's funny you should be the one to respond, I'm opening the craft store at my web site soon. I know you were interested, you'd mentioned it a couple years ago when I first had the idea. I'm now in a position to move forward with that as well. The jewelry, figures, textiles, images etc. would all be metaphysical, mystical, spiritual in nature. From Celtic to Native American to Hindu, Toaist and Aztec and everything in between. (Even back to Assyrian symbols of Messapotamia). All are hand made. I just need a place to market it. Get the word out and set up the store. As to return to your first question, get me some images and I can tell you if I can do it. A 12" model would probably run you into about $200 though. Between the supplies and woman hours worked. I was thinking of about $60 for a 4 inch model and going up from there. Thanks for the quick feedback. Boni

Boni - Cool. I thought it sounded familiar. I to thought about opening a "Metaphysical Store" but it never happened. Your pricing sounds right on the mark. I wish you the best of luck. I'll be in touch soon. Clint

One catch ... these cannot be copywrited images, unless the buyer owns the copywrite. I could get into a lot of trouble by making images from copywrited models. Let me know if your image is original. I look forward to hearing from you. Boni

Wow those are great prices. I know I would be interested; (if I get funding for my work)except for the fact I am not done the charachters. Here is a question for you, is there a way you could make a proto type. Have it approved and then say make 10 copies, if this is done would they all be priced the same as the prototype or would they be discounted. (please don't get to excited I don't know if I will take you up on this; it depends on the success of my project) I was thinking it would be nice to include with a Pitch. Moving on to second set of pitches with a few potential clients and doing some intial pitches to other clients. Do you paint them as well? Thanks. Deimos.

This sounds like a fantastic idea. I've been building figure models for a while and having one of my own creation would be very neat. Hey ClintH, is this what you had in mind. It is a resin 1/5th scale (about 13" tall) female predator.

Oh yea - Thats a cool model! There is a preditor model at the local comic book store but that sucker is hundreds of dollars. :) I would love to have it but .. Cant break loose of the bread to pick it up. :0 Clint

Great Responces. Sorry about the copywrite issue, Clint. Deimos, I can look into the prototype idea, need to find a foundery to duplicate the original but not out of the question. Price would be a break ... according to duplicating costs of course. Yes they definately can be painted if that is what you need. :) Great ideas guys, keep them coming!!

Try Toybuilders.com, also. They have quite a bit to offer. (even if the site design sucks)

with one of those 3-Dimensional printers, I can only imagine what I could potentially make :) It would rock so much I bet they are very expensive too

Hi all: Be careful with the "Predator" and other models done from film/tv/books...anything with anykind of copyright. If it doesn't sell you'll be ok. If it does sell I'm sure the producer/director/screewriter/star/janitor will demand you stop profiting from "their" work. Just a thought (any of you remember FOX's harassment of all the XFiles sites? Killed every one of them they did.
