Subject: Poser 7 random crashing solutions?

cujoe_da_man ( ) posted Mon, 03 December 2007 at 12:30 PM · edited Wed, 31 July 2024 at 9:05 PM

I'm just curious, has eFrontier addressed the problem with the random crashes that Poser 7 is prone to (that is, if anyone knows)?  It seems like it gets a wild hair up its @$$ and crashes on every single button click I make... even once crashed before it was done loading... then sometimes I could work the entire day and not have a problem.

It goes to the desktop like I clicked the close button.  I have both updates installed, defraged my drive(s), in fact, this is a new install of Windows for that matter so it can't be anything on my end.

Seems since they screwed with program to make it better, it made it even worse.  Maybe I'm making a problem out of nothing, but what's the point on spending this kind of money on a product that is unstable as this?  Is there soemthing I can do to make it more stable?

Pray for another SR and NO eFrontier won't be doing anything about it now. They don't own Poser anymore. LOL.

P7 has been the most unstable version I have had. P5 was never this bad for me.

Save often is the best advice for now.

poser 5 was much worse IMVHO, but in regard to OS X, they never implemented it correctly. poser is still the most unstable OS X app I have, 7 years after the first release of OS X. perhaps smith can make some kinda statement indicating there are big changes planned, but the e-f comparison chart indicates it's business as usual.

See, the difference of one machine from another. I never had the problems that many had with P5. Maybe that is why I'm jinxed with P7, Poser gremlins figure it's my turn.

well, either way, they better figure something out or they won't be making any money... that's also part of business.  After all, DAZ Studio is free, I only use Poser becuase that's what I learned from the beginning and I'd go back to 6, but I like the new features that allow me to render without the proram eatin up my resources, that has been a lifesaver.

DS is not free, only the base is. It is more expensive than Poser now and still does not have all that Poser has, for now. That is supose to change but with more bucks.

If you don't create content then DS is a good option All though there are those that still have problems running DS.

I thought I read on the poser blog that there was a poser 7.5 or something like that, coming out besides the pro version. I will be looking at the pro version myself for the render nodes and 64bit.

buuut, if 'Pro' is nothing more than P7 with a few extra bells and whistles, then aren't you still going to have the same problems with it crashing?

Tashar59 ( ) posted Mon, 03 December 2007 at 6:19 PM

I think the 64 bit will handle things better. I find that I can get about 5 good renders at a high setting before it crashes. I'm not the only one that has that problem. I've read many threads about that.

I now have 4gb of ram and it is not as bad, so, my thinking is how poser handles the memory is the problem and 64bit should help solve that problem. At least it does for every other program I use.

well, too bad I'm only running XP, I'd look into it myself.. maybe by the time they come out with 8 I'll upgrade windows :P

There is XP 64. Don't know what vista 64 will cost or if you can even get it without special orders. My machine can use vista but XP 64 is under $200 where vista anything is over $200. I would hate to see what the price of a Vista 64 would be.
