National Geographic :clip: "The giant rat is about five times the size of a typical city rat," Kristofer Helgen, a scientist with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., said in a press statement. "With no fear of humans, it apparently came into the camp several times during the trip." :/clip: Check out the photos of the newly discovered beautiful(JK) rat. Link to photots attached.

I knew that the R.O.U.S's existed!  And you all just THOUGHT it was made up for the Princess Bride.  LOL

I'd really hate to meet one of those in a dark alley.

Well, this is a cutie for sure but the  oppossum takes the prize for cute.

A South American rodent is that large but not really a rat, the nutria.  These came in from SA in the late 1930's and you might see a few in backwaters in Louisiana, USA.

BTW, lots of nutria recipes on the net..

We have nutria in Oregon and they are nasty little critters, well, they aren't so little.   They are damaging our vegetation and destroying habitat in wetlands.  I think I'll pass on the nutria recipes.

Here, in local restaurants, it's called "water-rabbit".

There are no Borg. All resistance is fertile.

Neat article. I love the colors on that "fruit dove".
