Hi Can anyone help with what is probably a really simple problem .I've just downloaded Alyrr Hair .I apply the 'template '  but when I then choose to overlay the texture nothing happens. I'm obviously missing something. Any help much apreciated. Bargeedog

templates are usually for creating your own textures .

try looking for poses for the hair , there may be mat poses to apply different colors.

Hi Bargeedog,

First, load your character {A3, V4, H3, D3, M3 etc...} then go to "Hair" and load "Alyrr Hair"...

Next open the parameters window, {Window> Parameter Dials} and choose the hair fit for the character you are using..spin the dials and get the fit right on your character.

Next Choose "Pose" and load the "MAT Alyrr Hair", double click the one you want..then render.... 😉

Thanks for posting .I've tried using the parameter dials .But It still does not apply the texture when chosen from Mat Alyrr in 'poses' .The hair chosen from the library looks like cartoon hair . It must be something really dumb Thanks again

Have you tried rendering the picture? A lot of hair (most with transparency maps in fact) tend not to show up in the scene until it's rendered.

Hi Raven the Alyrr hair doesnt use a trans map .The 'template' that you apply first is adjustable but without texture it is difficult to see exactly what you have. I've tried contacting the designer but had no reply. I guess this is a well used product so it must be something I'm doing or not doing Thanks for the post

Yes, the Alyrr hair does use a trans map. All hair made in the last 5 years (except dynamic hair, which is completely different) uses trans maps, this is what makes the hair look realistic instead of just moulded plastic.

It sounds like you are getting confused because the hair loads in cartoon preview mode. Try these steps:

  1. Load your figure
  2. Load the hair from the Hair library
  3. Double-click on the hair prop in the pose window
  4. If you're using a figure other than V3, use the morph dials in the parameter window to set the right figure. They'll be called "Fit V4", "Fit A3", etc. Set that to 1. (If you're using V3, skip this step.)
  5. Go to the Display menu>Element and choose "Texture shaded"
  6. Now apply a hair colour to the hair by double clicking a MAT pose from the MAT Alyrr Hair folder in the Pose library.

You do not need to apply any kind of "template".

You MUST have a figure loaded to apply a MAT pose. The textures won't apply to the hair without a figure in the scene.

Select the hair and select Display -> Element Style ->Texture shaded and you will see the hair texture without rendering.

Hi I have been using the method you describe however what may be misleading is my calling the effect that appears when the hair is first loaded from the hair library, a template. I then try to apply the hair texture from the poses library but nothing happens. I am making sure that alyrr hair is selected as the active element. Thanks Bargeedog

You still didn't say whether you rendered the picture or not :)  This picture explains why I asked if you had rendered. On the left is how the hair appears as normal in the preview window, even after applying different MAT poses to it from the pose library. The hair on the right is how it looks after rendering.

Oh that explains everything I was expecting the hair to look like hair in the pose window .Many many thanks Raven

No problem :)

Glad you've got it sorted.

Depends on the ball primitive you're using and the eye texture.  Both have to have the same UV mapping in order to work correctly.  Chances are you'll need to remap the ball in order to match the eye texture.

@ Tronoid.

The Ball and and Ball Hi-Res props have diffrent UV mapping to the eyes, in other words they are not designed to take the eye textures. Whilst you might be able to remap the ball props in the free utility "UV Mapper" to take eye textures, the simplest solution is probably to turn an eyeball into a prop, and use that.

To turn an eyeball into a prop in Poser, load a figure, apply any desired eye texturemap, select an eyeball, then from the Editing Tools pallet select the Grouping Tool, click the Add All button, click the Create Prop button, give it a name. Close the Grouping Tool, delete the figure from the scene, scale the eyeball to the desired size, move the eyeball to the desired default position, do ALT+CTRL+E (Memorize>Element). Save the eyeball to a props pallet.

thnks a lot ! : )

I'm gonna try to remap the ball.
