There is a list of free modelling programs in this thread:

"It is good to see ourselves as
others see us. Try as we may, we are never
able to know ourselves fully as we
are, especially the evil side of us.
This we can do only if we are not
angry with our critics but will take in good
heart whatever they might have to
say." - Ghandi
I've yet to see any 3D software without a pretty steep learning curve  although what you consider "Steep" depends on what experience you have of modelling I guess.
Good luck though - modelling is frustratingly addictive
My Freebies
Buy stuff on RedBubble
Wings is about the easiest to get to grips with, at least in the basics.
Coppula eam se non posit acceptera jocularum.
Recently I started to use Blender, and I dont have any 3D modeling experience so far.
The first time you look at Blender, it all looks a bit odd and confusing.
But I have to say that you grow into it and learn to use it quit fast.
Also the Blender community is big, so there are a lot of usefull tutorials out there.
There is even a blender-wiki with a lot of tut's and info.
Blender also can export as OBJ file.
Good luck with finding the program you like =)
I am not a complete idiot, some
parts are missing :)

Every so often I go to blender.org
And get very fired up at the galleries and DL the latest build
than I start with a tutorial and Do a nice fluid Simulation
then I lose interest and go back to Cinema4d with interposer pro plugin

Hi all, I am hoping you can help. I am looking for some free 3d software. that dose not have a steep learning curve. so I can take a character save its parts as an obj and chop in up or hack holes in it, I have a feeling that may not be that easy, but its worth asking. As always thanks ahead of time
