Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 1:43 pm)
Hi Miss Nancy, Thanks for the reply. I am using Poser 7 on the Mac and already have "Deep" selected in File Search prefs. The path that I wrote was according to the bfBuck instructions. This must be my inexperience with uvmapper and Poser. I followed the instructions that came with the bfBuck file but get the same results each time.
The default in Windows is to have everything UNchecked except
for "Don't export normals". For a Mac I think you'd also want to check
"Don't export linefeeds." Could be wrong about that....

If everything is white, you lost your material groups, which would be about right if you had "don't export materials" checked ON.
What Ockham is showing you as export options is about right. Most of the times I have everything checked OFF. (But I don't deal with Mac stuff)
With complex objects you usually do need normals. Usually they're not needed for morphs.

Another possibility: your materials and groups may not have the
same exact name in the OBJ and in Poser. If the figure file (CR2)
has a line that says
material LegFur
there should be a line in the OBJ file that says
usemtl LegFur
with exactly the same capitalization and no extra words.

Thanks for the reply ockham but now your over my head :-) I dont understand what happened, I did everything the bfbuck readme said to do and I have seen others on the forums get it to work. I dont know why mine isn't. I do appreciate you guys trying to help me though and being patient through all of this.
I opened the Buck-BF.cr2 file that is located in runtime/libraries/character/deer. There are other cr2 files in there for the different types of buck also. Is anyone else having the same problems I am with the bfBuck on the mac? I dont know why mine is so difficult to get working. Is this the area I should be looking at in BBedit: material skin { KdColor 1 1 1 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.0509804 0.0509804 0.0509804 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1 } material Preview { KdColor 1 0.645182 0.50959 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.37499 0.296605 0.274937 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1 } material nose { KdColor 0.992157 0.968627 0.94902 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.196063 0.196063 0.196063 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1 } material innerMouth { KdColor 0.215686 0.0705882 0.0588235 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0 0 0 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1 } material teeth { KdColor 1 1 1 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.501961 0.501961 0.501961 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1 } material innerEar { KdColor 0.94902 0.929412 0.917647 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.0195926 0.0195926 0.0195926 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1 } material iris { KdColor 1 1 1 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.984314 0.984314 0.984314 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1 } material pupil { KdColor 0.00392157 0.00392157 0.00392157 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.988205 0.988205 0.988205 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1 } material feet { KdColor 0.788235 0.717647 0.670588 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0.619608 0.619608 0.619608 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1 } material tail { KdColor 1 1 1 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0 0 0 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 30 tMin 0 tMax 0 tExpo 0.6 bumpStrength 1 ksIgnoreTexture 0 reflectThruLights 1 reflectThruKd 0 textureMap NO_MAP bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 1 1 1 1 reflectionStrength 1
that's one area. those are the poser 4 settings. kdcolor=diffuse=1=white. but there may be additional settings below that for the posersurfaces and their diffuse nodes, which should have a texture map attached. notice how all those say "no_map". search cr2 file in bbedit for keyword "shadertree" and phrase "nodeInput "Diffuse_Color"". if non-existant, it's a poser 4 file. if you're limited to the simple (poser 4) settings, then try to assign to the correct texmap to the diffuse color. try the advanced settings in material room for more versatility. in regard to uvmapper, cox never bothered to write a full version of it for OS X, so there's probly no point in wasting time trying to apply windows instructions to yer files.
Quote - Note the lines in the materials you posted "textureMap NO_MAP", this means that by default the cr2 is not trying to load any texture. You are trying to load the textures manually in the material room, arn't you? Sorry for asking, but you don't mention that step in your first post.
I did but the texture was out of alignment, patches of texture and patches of white where it didn't line up. I just cant figure out why I am having this problem with the files and no one else appears to be.
I also just tried this using Lyne's Creations Deer family and the same exact thing happens to the buck, no texture. So, I dont know what is happening between uvmapper and poser but I keep following the instruction with both the bfBuck and Lyne's Deer files but get the same results. Either something is not right in my mac version of uvmapper or Poser 7 doesnt like these older files for some reason. I am at a lost on this one.
Big Face Buck is a remap, so no, it doesn't take original textures - instead the package includes at least four new textures for remapped version.

Hi, I am having trouble with the bfBuck. I have the Daz3d Buck (not deer) and downloaded the bfBuck file and uvmapper for the Mac. I followed the steps in the bfBuck readme but all I end up with is a white buck and no textures at all. Here's what I did: 1. Installed the bfBuck files in Poser where they are supposed to go according to the readme file. 2. Run uvmapper on my mac and opened the blBuck.obj 3. In uvmapper - import the bfBuck.uvs 4. Select export model in uvmapper and changed file name to bfBuck.obj. Under the model export options left side export column everything is checked except "Single group". On the right side Geometry column nothing is checked. 5. Save bfBuck.obj file to RuntimeGeometriesZygoteAnimalsbuck In Poser all of the versions of the buck I try, except for the Daz original version, is white. What am I missing here? I must be missing a step or didn't read a step right. Any help would be appreciated because this is driving me nuts :-)
