Can anyone model a Poser prop that resembles this "Fantasy Flying Boat" thingie?

I'm sure it could be done; do you have some front, side, top views, etc? It would require modeling some curves (something I'm not good at), there's probably plenty of people who can, though...

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

No, this is the only shot I've got.  But there is wide latitude for what it would actually look like in 3D.  Basic, it's an old-style, wide-bottomed bathtub-shaped container with somewhat pointy ends that are embellished with the curvy appendages.  Looks like it also has some knobby feet to stand on, and some stars on springy rods (but they could be fixed with no springy capability too).  Getting the texture close is important.

FYI, the model would be used in a high-profile animation of a short story by a published author of children's books, and would get national attention as such.

I take it you need it to be large enough to put four figures inside... and poser-ready?
Hopw soon do you need it?

Yes, that's correct.  Poser compatible.

By the end of the month would be helpful.

Is this possible?

Bummer, there's no way I could do it by the end of the month, too many other commitements in the near future.

How much time would you need?  I've got tons of other things I need to figure out how to do (not the least of which is that darned cute little unicorn) and work on before I have to start assembling all the components in the scenes and animating everything.  I could just use a placeholder for this flying contraption for now and animate all the stuff I need to around it.

I need to think about it, get my ducks in order here.  I'd love to model the arc, but I'm in the middle of releasing a pretty complex piece, so my timing is very disorganized right now. I'm not in a position where I can make any promisses right now.

I just made a wizard robe for Apollo Maximus, and I can totally see him floating around in something like this.

OK.  Take your time.  I'd truly appreciate anything at all that you could do to help me on this.

The animation is for, are you ready for this, the Lighthouse for the Blind.  It's part of a national Christmas shindig they do every year (this is for next Christmas, but everything has to be completed by this April)  for kids and family members of the blind (the ones blessed with sight, obviously).  The illustration is from one of the children's books that the author has somehow become traditionally involved with in participating in the program.  She's busy getting the voice talent and music recorded in a studio now, and I'm supposed to animate to that material.  I'm just trying to collect the models I need and construct the scenes so I can animate everything when the time comes.

Sounds pretty cool!  I'll probably make it as a marketplace item, but you guys get it for free.

Incidentally, here's a render of the last little 'boat' I modelled: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1297927&member

. Texturing and poser-ing will probably take some time. Crits and comments most welcome.

ghonma - what you have done is awesome; especially in such a short period of time. i am new to the 3-d art world and i don't know exactly how such a thing is done but it is obviously complex. i understand a little about creating the basic boat shape but the mathematical description of the scroll pieces is way beyond. you must be a genius. i hope you show us more of your work.

Terry Mitchell ( ) posted Fri, 04 January 2008 at 9:58 PM

My sentiments exactly.  I'm overwhelmed by ghonma's talent and truly baffled as so how this was done at all, much less done so quickly.  I'm looking forward to the final results.
