Okay, so I'm working on finishing up shield model.  It's getting near finished, but I ran into this problem when I rendered in Poser.  I circled the problem areas in the render.  I can see how it's messed up in the object mesh but I can't find a way to fix it.  I modelled the front and back basically the same so it has this problem on both sides.

All I need to do for this to be finshed is figure out this problem, add a handle on the back, and touch up the texturing .  So I am hoping that someone would be willing to take a look at the file and see if they could help me get it fixed.

If anyone can help me with this you would make me a very happy modeller.

My first guess would be that there are some normals reversed.
When you import did you tick the "Make polygon normals consistent" option ?

It's also possible that there are double sided polygons in those areas, if you're using P6 or P7, just tick the "Normals_Forward" box on the "Poser_Surface" node of the relevant material.

Thanks for the suggestions, but the Normals Forward box didn't help, and it looks like I have the "Make polygon normals consistent" button selected by default.  I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the actual modeling, I just don't know how I need to change the modeling to fix it.

Perhaps you could do a screenshot and render zoomed in on one of the problem areas, a screenshot from Blender of one of those areas with the edges highlighted would also help.

It looks to me like you have duplicate points or interior edges - probably the second.

Of course do a remove duplicates on the mesh first but it looks like what happens with interior lines like in the attached shot.

I think I may have just solved my problem.  While I was looking for the Remove Doubles option I came across the Smooth option (which I hadn't seen before) and it seems to have done the trick, hopefully.  I have a habit of thinking I figured something out then it turns out to still be wrong.  I'll see how this goes and post if I need more help.

Thanks for the advice you two.  :D

As well as the remove doubles option also try the clean meshes script with the Edges:short option enabled. This will usually clear any interior edges not connected to a face.

I'll keep that in mind.  Thanks. 😄
