Subject: Everything Disappeared

cryptojoe ( ) posted Fri, 04 January 2008 at 7:55 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 10:58 PM

Okay, a real noob question...

I was working in the modeling room, saved my work, came back, fired up Carrara, and opened the file, went to the modeling room, everything disappeared.

Whats up?

Did you have the object you were working on selected in the Assemble room when you changed to the Modeling room?

Hi, cryptojoe.

Could be a simple hidden vertices issue.Try this: Select the object, enter on de Model Room and go to View > Reveal Hidden Vertices. Or, sometimes Carrara's shows a message at the top of the window "Rendering Failed". On the Model Room, turn off the Subdivison Smooth, sometimes this may help bring the model back.  And don't forget to install the 6.0.3 patch too, is very important.

Cheers!

For some odd reason I have to click in the viewport or operate the trackball thingie before my scene or model becomes visible in the viewport.  Once I do that, it magically appears.

Patch? I just downloaded this last week. Never know though, right?

Anywho, thanx for the help, I'll get back to it and see what happens.

I have been sitting here watching Marks VTC movies for Version 5 and they are not giving me a clue as to what is happening to you.

**Here is what I get when I take a scene and drop a sphere primitive into it, then enter the model room.  Do you get the same? Post up a screenshot.**

**I found out I had to convert to the vertex modeler from the primitive modeler to see my sphere in the model room.  Its the button that says convert to other modeler.

No, I'll probably have to try and follow the videos at Bremmer's site again. I know I heard it talked about there, briefly...

Don't know if this might help - I regularly get this in Amapi. If I'm really lucky I get a warning that says "bad geometry" or "invalid command" or something like that. It just doesn't like what I've done. Then the whole kaboodle ups and disappears. The only way I've found around it is to go back to the original scene and copy each bit into a new doc, see if I can spot the error/s in the models parts and then paste the bits into a completely new doc one by one. It remembers the position, so it's no great hassle. Just a pain.

@cryptojoe: Did you see any objects in the "instance" tab of the properties?

Not sure, I canned the file days ago...

From what I can see, its the interface. It's better than Poser but so similar its easy to loose objects because you can't hit a simple button or type in a command to "Show Extents" meaning to show everything loaded.

I tried AutoCAD before switching to Rhino, Rhino was so much smoother and the program so intuitive it practically taught you how to use it by simply looking in the help file.

Here's how bad it is for me, when I lay out my, whatsitcalled Assembly room (?), I have to use four view-ports because it resembles a CAD layout. Too bad it isn't available in the, whatzitcalled, Modeling Room (?) where it would be most beneficial. I'm still confused over the need for an Assembly Room and a Modeling Room, where the two could easily be combined...

I bought a manual, so, it should help me get the hang of it allot faster, thanx all.

**I just ordered the Carrara 5 Pro handbook as well.  I hope it clarifies things for me.  I like having the rooms to keep operations separate.  Joe I can change the viewports in the modeling room to 4 viewports.**

I am probably going to join VTC for several months to have access to Marks Carrara videos and the Hexagon videos as well.  I learn good with video.
