Subject: Skull Caps

Okay.  I'm ready to try making some hair on my own, at last.  But, everything seems to say that I should use a skull cap.  Uh oh.  I don't know how to make a skull cap.  Anyone know of any good tutorials?  :)

Thanks!

You can download some free scullcaps at PhilC's site here: http://www.philc.net/freestuff_archive.htm

Unless you just want to make your own, in which case I can't help you.

I saw those, and downloaded the ones for M3 and V3.  Unfortunately, the figure that I'm trying to work with, right now, is David.  Doesnt that just figure?  lol  I saw one tutorial on makiong skullcaps right in Poser, but it says that I cant use them to make anything that I would eventually want to sell.  And I'd really like to eventually be able to sell something, once I get good enough at it.  I have Shade8, so I thought I might be able to do something there.  But, I just cant seem to find a tut.  Ah, well.  If it comes right down to it, I'll get stubborn and work it out on my own.  lol

Thanks!

If you are just now starting on making your own hair then I don't think it would hurt to make them in Poser for now.  Then once you are to the point that you can make hair for sale you will probably have the skills to make your own scullcaps by then as well.  For now Poser ones would be good for just practicing creating hair.

I don't know if this would work or not, but could you resize one of the downloaded scullcaps to fit David?  I don't have him so I don't know how different he is from M3 or others.

You know, I thin you might be right.  It'll be months or more before I can make anything worth offering to the public.  So, I think I'll just use the Poser method.  Thanks, Molina!  I really hadnt even thought of that.  I must need more caffiene, this morning.  lol

Glad I could help.  I think this might be the first time I was ever even qualified to help anybody on this forum. hah

Good luck with your hair making.  And when you make some decent looking hair maybe you can give me a few pointers. 😉

Naturally Dr. Geep would have the answer.

I am looking forward to seeing your answer for conforming hair, whenever you get around to that.

Wow!  Thanks, Dr Geep!  I've heard your name a thousand times, but I never expected an answer straight from you!  So, if I use your method, can I use the skullcaps I make to create products to sell or offer in the freebie section?

Thanks so much!

And Molina, I promise to let you know as soon as I finish something worth sharing!  ;)

Hi ShadowLark1977,

Sorry, but to the best of my (meager) knowledge ... the answer is  ... no. ... ;=[

Because you will have duplicated part of some copyrighted geometry and it is not legal for you to redistribute that without the original author's written permission.

You might want to post this question in the Copyright Forum , also, but I believe I am correct.

You may only (re)distribute, sell, etc. geometry that you have created from scratch.

Thanks again, DrGeep!  I think I'll use your method, until I get better at it.  And then, maybe, I'll see if I can use Shade to make them from scratch.  Thanks so much for all the tutorials that you've put out there.  I see several that I need to read through and learn from!

Since the skull cap doesn't have to be a perfect fit, I would advice using the PhilC skull caps and just increasing them with the appropriate X, Y and Z scales. This way your hair would be able to be used on all kinds of characters. You could provide hints as to the scale settings for different characters or leave it all up to the users.

Good idea, jfbeute!  Thanks so much to all of you, for giving my poor newbie bum a kick in the right direction.  And Dr Geep...don't even get me started.  I havent even begun to think about dealing with shadows, yet.  lol
