Not sure what you want really.A traditional space scene is some stars a few textured balls and a shitload of Photoshop.Although some cool nebulae can be made with the spectral clouds if you have 6I. Theres alot of awesome space models on the www like at theforce.net

cheers, what I was wondering is there a way of doing a whole space scene within vue and not using photoshop.

something like this :

OH!  Well yes of course that can easily be done in Vue,but that isnt EXACTLY a space scene. It is more like terraforming:D And since technically that planet is in space and so are we,every image in the gallery is a space scene(;  I thought you meant an OUTER space DEEP space Star Wars/Trek type thing:D If you wanna see some REAL space scenes head on over to Solar Voyager or some where like that.Again,extensive use of Photoshop. There is no way to my knowledge to get most of this straight out of Vue,but then that isn't what Vue is made for(;

Not tutorials but you might want to take a look at Monsoon's Postcards From The Rim pack at 3d Commune and also a browse of the stuff in the SciFi theme at Cornucopia 3D.  There are objects and materials in both that can be used to create space scenes in Vue without using any other applications.

Solar Voyager is a rockin site! Been there a long time.In some odd way they make me wanna do art. always! That to me is TRUE art still. closest thing in this cyber age to actually painting and getting high on fumes(;

Your example image shows a planetary terrain - which can be done in Vue - using normal or procedural terrain - and in combination with well done terrain materials it will look like that, no problem (for example by using the functions in the function editor or displacement materials or hyper matierals, you can produce really spacy terrains with extreme alien looks ).
Skys with stars can be done easily within Vue with the internal star function - planets can be added with the basic maps or adding your own textures from photos or whatever.
Or you can use photos as backgrounds - one or more mixed using alpha planes in Vue ...
This is all possible to do with Vue .. why not ... sure for some stuff it takes experience ...
