Yay! 1 more point for XP - or at least another one against beastly Vista...

Well... here is another one for you... it turns out that Dell has been dumbing down their Vista Installations even on their most PowerFull systems.
Yup... People who have bought powerfull Dell systems have noticed that their Vista installations has had quite of its bells and whistles disabled so that you dont notice the performance hit.
I showed my wife, how slow my laptop was for even as simple as loading and playing Solitaire!!!
It makes you wonder when an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz @ 800Mhz Bus with 2 Gigs of Ram... cant handle the O/S Alone never mind running any applications, oh and the constant prompting...to get permission so that the O/S itself could carry out a task...that was the last straw. :)
PS: Service Pack 3 for WIndows XP Should be out soon.
Well I am having one built and thank god I had a choice so I am staying with XP I don't even want Vista.

Sounds like a great little lappy, congratulations! I recently got a decent lump sum of cash for a commercial and used it to buy parts to build a nice desktop rendering system with a new LCD monitor. I installed XP as my OS after hearing so many "horror" stories from the web and from other tech people I know personally.
When my son built my new pc last june he installed XP-Pro, saying that Vista was just a ridiculous drain on the memory.

Running Vista is like throwing a rench in the cogs of a printing press.....everything comes to a dead stop. :)
Its like Pouring Sugar in the gas tank of a car.
Its like buying the top of the line Computer with amazing horsepower, than installing Vista and watching it slow down to the speed of a Pre-Pentium 486 Processor.
Its like.... well you get the idea.
It's like... wading through treacle.

Performance isn't an issue for me, neither is RAM.
The big issue for me was compatability; both device drivers and software. I had some trouble with some programs running and also some display problems with certain programs. It all works now; except...
There are issues w/ networking the XP machines to the Vista machine; I'm not even sure that it can be done... Vista to Vista = no problems, XP to XP = no problems, Vista to XP = SNAFU. :(

Quote - I haven't had any networking issue with Vista and XP together. 14 computers: 6 Vista, 4 XP.
:b_unbelievable:
That's 10.... What are the other 4? Macs?

I have nothing but problems with xp/vista networking. I cant even joint lanparties with my xp system! cuz everyone's got vista so they can see directx10 effects :-/
Even a brand new laptop wont connect to the wireless network at home.. and since its new that cant really have ancient hardware and/or drivers as a cause for that problem either...

*The other four are not XP nor Vista, thus I did not include them in the count. They are either Win2K or Ubuntu Linux.
*They're games machines, aren't they. You play macho-type shoot 'ems on X-boxes and stuff.
Admit it! You're a games junky!!!

Watch your mouth!! I am on Win 2K and ain't no game junkie!!! :glare: I might have a game or two to play when I get bored with Bryce... or work... just the default card game that comes with Windoze but other than that, it's Dreamweaver, Flash, MS Office etc. I might upgrade to XP and stay there til they pried my keyboard from my cold stiff fingers... But for now, I'm happily working my lil creative "magic" in Bryce with Win 2K...

Quote - Hello, I'm Death, and I'm a games junkie. *A roomful of fellow addicts shrinks back in fear at Death's gruesome visage and says- Uh, uh, Hi Death!
From time-to-time I tend to forget and say things like "greetings targets," which I actually intended for "mortals" instead of "targets." This is actually true as I started to use the handle Death on MUD servers in the early 90's. I've become accustomed to role playing (RP) the anthropomorphic personification of the destroyer of worlds, the harvester of souls, AKA the grim reaper.
But in terms of games, I no longer play FPS, like Quake (but I do sometimes get on a Quake server when I'm feeling nostalgic and imagine I'm blowing away heretics ;-) but instead play the "game of kings"--Chess! Which I think is appropriate for RP'ing the persona.
Quote - Yeah, even though I'm not a "gamer" I had to build a new system with a dx10 capable vidcard to be able to run the heretical app Hexagon2.2. I love displacement painting!
How stable is Hexagon now?
I tried it out at the first Hex 2 release and it was crashing a lot. I mean A LOT!
Friends don't let friends use booleans.
I honestly haven't had many probs with the 2.2 ver upgrade! It hasn't crashed on me yet. I have imported some terrain and set pieces into it from Wings and it handled them without a prob. Painting and exporting displacement maps and textures works fine for this use but there are still some problems with map seams occassionally. I would probably have to finish up the maps in PS3(I don't have it, but my friend does) to have critically flawless maps for boned and rigged characters.

BTW...I have reactivated and downloaded Bryce 5.5 & Bryce 6.1 upgrade. 5.5 worked ok but 6.1 wont open at all did you any trouble at all?
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know this is going to sound like a bunch of excuses and maybe it is.. but with Being sick for the last month and a half and my new Job... I havent had the time to do anything, other than to check here for a few new posts and thats it.
The new laptops sits infront of me teasing me....the original reason I purchased it, was for work and thank gawd I didnt... since I droped my older laptop at work today and busted the corner where the A/C Adapter plugs in....

So this is what I got.

T7500 (Core 2 Duo, 2.2Mhz)
2GB Ram
Nvidia Quadro 570M
100GB HD
