Subject: How many ancient Poser sites are left?

I was weeding out browser Poser favorites and saddened by finding more that are gone and was surprised that there are still some older personal Poser sites that are still around, but haven't been updated in years. One is the old Greylight site. It doesn't appear that the site has been updated in a half dozen years. It's still got lots of models for older Poser figures.

Are there many other sites like this that are still around?

Yes, I have noticed that a lot.....I think over half my saved Poser links fall into that category! :0/

On a related issue, I am also saddened by the loss to the Poser world of talented merchants too.

Magnet is one that springs to mind.......Seemed to vanish around the time V3 appeared. :0(

WARNING: Nostalgia outbreaks imminent!

Still are out there some websites dedicated to Poser 3 and 4, and ProPack. That's nice. Just Google it and you'll see.

You are not alone!

The Ancients stopped updating many of their sites when the Wratih forced them out of the Pegasus Galaxy, or when many of the Ancients ascended.

PhilC's old site is still around, and of course there's Poser World - you can still download some of Steve's earliest work, and if that isn't good enough for you, you can buy CD1. :) Poser Cold Storage has some old characters by Ghost; Ghastley Software is still around; shall I go on? :) It depends on how you define "ancient", I suppose...

gagnonrich ( ) posted Mon, 07 January 2008 at 1:20 PM

I found a few characters I didn't have from Cold Storage.  PoserWorld sort of doesn't apply because it's being kept current and I'm a lifetime member there. I'm more curious about old sites that, for whatever odd reasons, are still on the net, but kind of frozen in time since they haven't been updated in a while.

If you know of more, feel free to post them.

Here is one that has a certain charm...

http://avalontree.narod.ru/main.html

It is in Russian but there are links to Poser content.

Others:

http://www.cocs.com/poser/index.htm

http://www.3droad.com/index.htm

http://eowyn.carnique.nl/

and oddly enough

Orions own site.

http://www.chriswayne.com/

That gets us just over half way through the alphabet....

I culled out quite a few dead links on the way too! :0/

In the Poser world, if something's 2 years old: then it's 'ancient'.  If it's 6 years old, then it's positively neolithic.

These "ancient" Poser-related websites are an example of "Cyber rot".

](http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=cyber+rot)There are gazillions of cyber rot type sites to be found on the web.  Most of them don't have anything to do with Poser.  But I suppose that it's inevitable that a few of them would be Poser-related.

It would be funny to stumble across a P4-related website in 50 years.  Assuming that the web still exists by then.  Although I believe that I can safely predict that most human beings won't have a clue about what "P4" ever meant.  Perhaps they'll still be able to download old content for it, though.

I have a long list of Poser sites, aside from Posette Forever can't think of many. Check with Trekkie Grrrl, she has a long list.

Heh -- last night, while looking for something else, I stumbled across a blog webpage which proudly announced "More coming soon!".  No entries had ever been made on that blog; and according to the page the last "update" was done sometime in April 2007.  Perhaps there'll be a new post if I check back again five years from now.......it all depends upon what the meaning of "soon" is........

Actually, there's a lot of really great older Poser stuff that may or may not be available any longer. The one clothing item that has the most add-ons and textures is Anton's 5+ years old Morphing Fantasy Dress. From the Poser Cold Storage link EnglishBob provided, there's some nice scifi figures and a decent knight. The old Warhammer figures are still very cool and they've got to be around eight years old. Some Japanese made P4 Female figures still look very good and a lot of people are doing interesting things with the old P4 figures today.

If there's some interest, I'll cull out thumbnails of some of the better older freebies I've found as a nostalgic reminder that oldies aren't necessarily baddies. New textures can readily breath life in many an older figure or clothing item.

At five years old, Morphography is well on its way to being Neolithic, then - it already is if you include the time Cheapskate Graphics was open before that. :) Schlabber's Posing is an Art 2.1 is preserved almost in its entirety; Duane's Toybox apparently hasn't been updated since 2004; Cyobitlab is frozen on a mirror site since the death of its owner; Anthony Appleyard was one of the earliest members here, long may he continue; and that's just from a quick skim through my links (thanks for the plug, Lyrra...).

All good links -- Anthony Appleyard remains active here, with his very generous free models.  In fact: he's got a thread about a new model going right now.

Hey -- just because something's 'neolithic' doesn't mean that it's not useful......but it does mean that the traffic to such sites is likely to be measured in the 1-to-15 hits per month range.  If it's that high.

The page for Bloodsongs Heavy Horse says its 'in transition' maybe that means its being updated and will be re released someplace?

I've just been using some of Anthony Appleyard's diver stuff. And I'd like to see something closer to a WW2 frogman.

Is this FastTraxx's site?  I found it in Google. There's not much left to it other than a pile of tutorials.

members.tripod.com/~the_great_site/poser.htm

I still use Schlabber's poses all the time as my starting points for poses. The stuff on Cyobit's site still looks great. It's a shame he's gone, but the site lives on as a great tribute. I've rabidly collected everything Anthony Appleyard has released. I've gotten a lot of nice things from AvalonTree. I don't think the site is dead yet, but it's been a while since there has been an update. I've also downloaded most of Baument's freebies over the years.

Traveler recently shut down MorphWorld and that used to be the best place to get morphs for P4 and V1 characters.

Lyrra may want to look at Duane Moody's Poser links at ODP at
www.dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Graphics/3D/Animation_and_Design_Tools/Poser/
The links haven't been updated in a couple years. I've tried to contact Duane to find out if he quit the same reason I did, but never got a response. I left because donating my time there was like being assimilated by the Borg. Their arcane rules resulted in their pulling some of the best links out of my Painter category because the main site covered more than one graphics program even though the sites were 75%-95% Painter related. The links were scattered in a dozen different categories and started losing any value in being a human assembled index.
