Attached Link: Stanford.edu DRYAD TREE GENERATOR

Found this in the Vue forum today and thought I'd pass it along for those of you running XP with a gig or more of RAM. Don't know how good it is as I have only 512 M on my internet machine which has XP, both of which it seems to need to work. If anyone tries this please post Brycean samples in this thread...thanx.. ...

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

Hey! I was just now about to post about it. :-)  Found it on slashdot.org. It outputs to .obj format.

the FAQ Mentions that Trees are downloaded to you're computer from their database.... I hope they decided to include these trees as a seperate download.    You know how it goes... something happens the project ends or the website goes down and the software becomes usless because it needs to contact the website to grab the content.

As soon as the application runs the splashscreen shows it's downloading trees from the server. There is a tree data file and an executable. You select from a field of trees the shape you want, and when you move your mouse around that shape, the shape changes. There is only one file format to save: .obj. Importing into Bryce there's a trunk mesh and leaves mesh. I did a simple tree, so maybe more complex trees might have more meshes (i hope). Thus far it seems to be Bryce friendly.

Here's a little experiment. Just selected a tree and saved it. Didn't play around with the tree controls.

Personally I think this is a useful application to use along with Bryce. It would be nice to run more tests using Dryad with the Ivy Generator. I haven't tried bushes or anything other than this one tree.

The tree controls have quite a few things to mess with. But it looks easy.

Hrm, I suspect when you quit the tree you have in the editor gets uploaded somewheres. I no longer see the basic tree shape I used in the render above, and I see some very ugly trees... as if ppl are experimenting with the tree controls.
