Subject: P6 suddenly locking up

A few weeks ago I started getting a slowdown of P6.  When opening a Poser scene, I'd get a white screen with only the surrounding border showing and then parts of the regular P6 screen would slowly appear.  (see image .)  But now, its gotten worse.  After the file finally opens, I've lost all the animation (There's no change in the scene anymore between frame 1 and any other frame.) and cloth room info and then scene locks up.  I've tried reinstalling P6 and doing a disc refrag, but that doesnt seem to help. Any suggestions?

Try right clicking on the scene area and looking to see if you have "SreeD" or "OpenGL" checked.  Which ever one you have with a checkmark next to it, try the other one to see if that helps.

Also, do you have SR3 installed?

Try downloading new video drivers.

Did you install any programs during the time when you started to notice the problems? If so, try uninstalling them and see if that helps.

Apprently Quick Time can cause problems with Poser 6 too.  Though I haven't had a problem with it. But if try uninstalling it and see if it helps you.

Go into your Windows User  folder and delete the Poser cache.

Have you done virus and adware scans? Those things can cause lots of grief!!!  (the virus and adware, not the scans :) )

Those are the only suggestions that I can think of. Maybe someone else will have some others.

This is purely a shot in the dark, not knowing what the problem is, but defraging is not enough to keep your system running well. If you surf the net and work with large file sizes as we typically do when working with graphics, you end up with a lot of junk files and a corrupted registry. I use a product called System Mechanic that was recommended to me by the pros that built my custom system. I run it about once a week or so and defrag roughly once a week. It keeps my system in top notch shape. Its amazing how much drive space can be consumed in a relative short amount of time with junk files. These junk files take up space on your hard drive that is needed for virtual memory.

I've tried both SreeD and OpenGL and both react the same.
Sr3 is installed.
Updated the drivers.
Removed Quicktime.
Done a virus and adware scan.
Cleaned out the junk and registry.
None of these has helped the problem.
I can't seem to find the Poser cache anywhere on my computer, though.  Ive looked through the Windows folders, users folders, done a search for all 'Poser' files and folders... nothing.

How much RAM do you have and how much HD space?  Poser eats RAM like a bulemic in a pie shop and gets cranky if there's not a lot of HD space.

I have 2- 160 GB hard drives that are both still half empty.  (I keep Poser and all the Runtime folders on the separate drive.)  I had 2 GB Ram when this all started, but I recently upgraded and installed more so I now have 4 GB Ram.

What OS are you running? XP or Vista?

I had a similar problem with Poser 5 & Poser 6 ...

Uninstalling Quicktime solved the problem.

I unistalled Quicktime, but the problem persists.
I'm planning on a complete rehaul of my system this weekend (making a clean install of Vista).  So we'll see what happens after that.

What graphics card and what graphics driver? I read that the newest ATI Radeon drivers screwed up OpenGL again.

32 or 64 bit xp?

Did you have problems before you added more memory?
