The magazine PC Advisor - not sure which issue - has a full version of Power Director 5 on the cover DVD.

Not sure if you can get it where you are.

I use Pinnacle Studio, but that costs. ;-(

Available on Amazon for the Kindle E-Reader

If you're running XP I believe there's an included software called Movie Maker in  C: Program FilesMovie Maker  you might want to try.. ...

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

The best of the best amongst the free ones:   Wax

Wink is not bad either.

www.debugmode.com

Virtual Dub is also a must-have - google for virtualdub

  1. Movie Maker is a very quick way to edit videos, and is included with WInows XP for free.

  2. Sonys Vegas Studio is a good editor but is not free.

  3. Ulead Video Studio which was bundled with my Camcorder is pretty easy to use, but has
some limitations of how detailed of an edit you can make.  I've this in the past to make someons Wedding video on DVD.

  4. Pinnacle another great editing software, I would its either the same or better than Ulead's Video Studio.

  5. Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, expensive and very hard to learn, its like Photoshop but with video editing capabilites.  Probably best left for professional movie making.

  1. VirtualDub - Open source tool... I've used it in the past simply splice pieces of video together.

This site is worth checking out http://www.digital-digest.com/software/searchwizard.php

Also while editing different video formats you may need codecs to go along with them and here is an awesome place to get them.   http://www.free-codecs.com/

Final note If you need to transfer video from a camcorder to pc and the Camcorder has the option of USB or FireWire... please chose the FireWire method.. although USB 2.0 is as fast as Firewire, I dont know why but Video transfer get degraded during the transfer using USB.  I've tested the Firewire method on 4 different brand of Camcorders and always get the best video quality over USB 2.0.

Movie Maker is good but it purposefully makes movies come out pink if you use another viewer besides Microsoft. Transitions also only work with media player. Not a problem if you are only going to use Microsoft products.

There is a good set of codecs and tools at http://www.radgametools.com/ Bink and smacker are used to create cut scenes between game levels. The fly in scenes from the Myst games were created with these free tools.

Thanks for the advice, once again you guys come up trumps. I'll have a look through and see what suits. It's nothing proffesional, just splicing the mother in laws QE2 trip together. Need to get hold of the theme tune to Benny Hill from some where as well!

You'll need to locate the skin slapping sound clip too. (Top of the head-"patpatpatpatpat)
