Subject: Who is Stephanie?

imagination304 ( ) posted Fri, 18 January 2008 at 4:53 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 1:35 AM

Hi all,

http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/shop/itemdetails/-/?item=1750&cat=338
Who is Stephanie? What is the difference between V3 and her?
Is it necessary to buy this models?

Thanks in advance
:)

Lucifer_The_Dark ( ) posted Fri, 18 January 2008 at 5:35 AM

She's a totally separate figure from V3 & you don't HAVE to buy her if you don't want to but diversity is a good thing if you can afford it ;)

stephanie? gnarly body, a dwarf in size and big feet? i dubbed her gollum and deleted her from my runtime...

You don't have to buy anything if you don't want to. :) Technically, that's Stephanie Petite 3, usually abbreviated to SP3. There was a Stephanie 1, who was related to versions 1 and 2 of Mike and Victoria (she could wear V1&2's clothes). She too was fairly ugly out of the box, but can look good if you treat her right (see my gallery for an example). SP3 suffers from not being as well supported as her cousin V3, so you won't find as many clothes, hair and characters available for her. I happen to think her proportions are nearer the norm for the female population compared to the statuesque V3, but your opinion is the only one that counts. She can look good - check out Blackhearted and Rio's Irina character in the marketplace, for instance - but most of the character creation effort has gone into Victoria, sadly.

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Fri, 18 January 2008 at 8:17 AM

Most - ALL of the character creation effort has gone into Victoria. ;)

By that I mean that the 0.1%to99.9% lack of support for David, Michael, Hiro compared to the mountains of V3 and V4 content is ridiculous.  Everyday, Rendo MP adds 20 more V3/V4 contents and 0 for any other figure.  How many variations of Alyssa, Alise, Alis, Alice, Aluesha can one make!?  200 pages for V3/V4.  33 for D3, H3, M3 ~combined~.

Ack.
Spurt.
Thud.

I've died and gone to hell and it's all Victorias! ;P

shrug - Dunno... Aiko gets a lot of attention; probably a solid #2 in my opinion. /P

lwperkins ( ) posted Fri, 18 January 2008 at 3:57 PM

One thing that is cool about Steph Petite is that she can share maps with Aiko (in Aiko's Realistic mode) and some clothing as well with a little fiddling. Steph Petite also uses V3 mapping so the V3 Maps fit mostly on her, though I have noticed some oddness around the lips. My biggest problem with Steph Petite was that her eyes are too shallow and without ZBrush there is no easy fix. The rest of her is cute (you can scale the hands and feet).

Classic Steph was somebody dinking around with Mike2, and created a really tall girl out of him. She doesn't have quite enough hip polygons and she does look like she's got an extra chromosome, but Wyrmmaster made a nice add-on for her to make her more feminine and pretty (you don't have to use the DD morphs for the chest if you didn't want them) Sadly I forget the name, though I remember that the Steph Petite version was Amy Alps:-)

lwperkins ( ) posted Fri, 18 January 2008 at 7:14 PM

haha, that's it! How could I forget? I liked her a lot, but soon after V3 came out and she was a lot easier to use and had a million options that poor Steph did not.

Stephanie came out right before the Poser 5 Material Room.  M2 was the first figure I used there, then S1.  I remeber transfering much of his morphs, and maps, to her.

lwperkins ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2008 at 10:19 AM

Oh yeah, I forgot Steph Classic could wear the M2 maps! Hehe! I swear she was somebody's pet project and not a regular Daz production item. Later a demented genius made "Stephanie Max," who was based on Steph Classic, and she had a lot of neat options. i lost her in a hd flop, but she was fun too. I like extra figures with their own mesh, it's too bad they are such a pain to develop!

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sat, 19 January 2008 at 11:31 AM

I like both Stephanies.  I've used the original version in quite a few of my pics and have always made a point of supporting S3 in my packs.  Nice alternatives to the plethora of Victorias out there.

kobaltkween ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 8:51 AM

actually, imho, the original Stephanie had a purpose.  she was a perfect base for the baby-faced boyish look i find pretty common anywhere there's a significant number of people of british, irish or north-eastern european ancestry.

lwperkins ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 12:41 PM

That might be why she always looked best in a freckly red-haired version! I've been playing with Stephanie Max yesterday, thanks to English Bob helping me revive her in my Runtime, (bows to EnglishBob) and I had forgotten how much I liked her! I also discovered that a lot of V3 stuff fits her if you parent rather than conform the figures. Probably the Wardrobe Wizard would convert stuff for her, too

Penguinisto ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 1:56 PM

FWIW, The first Aiko (Aiko 1) also used the M2/Stephanie mesh and textures. It was not so much a pet project, than it was an early attempt at what we now know as Unimesh. ;) /P

There are some really nice characters for SP3 at Art Collaborations site and she also takes V3 textures.

Angelouscuitry ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 3:04 PM

Anyone know how S1 could take V3 textures, the UVs do'nt look anything alike?

Any links to S1 Freebies would be greatly appreciated!

Two options:

Remapping S1 (tricky and time consuming)

Universal Texture Converter (does a reasonable job on most textures, tends to screw up tattooes)

Thanks Sam.  I was aware of those.  I meant anything especially conventional?

In other words V3's textures don't really just work on S1, do they?

EnglishBob ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 4:58 PM

No, they don't. Purrdey wrote:

TiffT785 has Jillena, who isn't free but she's gorgeous, there is a suit by Nikita Creed on the RDNA freestuff--the S1Cybersuit, that is a body paint/stocking outfit, and do a google for Roxxy Toxxin, who is a great Goth-style freebie for classic steph (I have it on disk but I don't want to redistribute it). Someplace I have a free Steph char that I made too--I just have to find the disk and I'll put it on on my Rosity homepage.

lwperkins ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 6:16 PM

Okay, found old Myrabelle for Steph, and uploaded her on my homepage--should be here:
http://www.renderosity.com/homepage.php?page=2&userid=354046
If that doesn't work, go to my Homepage and then look under Artist's Input on the menu bar, it's on that page. She needs a better lash trans but the rest is sort cute. Rendering her with the Face_off Real Skin Shader might do wonders for her bump texture, too.

Angelouscuitry ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 6:57 PM · edited Sun, 20 January 2008 at 6:58 PM

Yep, I see it in your File Locker; thank you!

lwperkins ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 7:16 PM

You're welcome! Feel free to tinker with her, too--I seem to remember her brows could have been "more better" too (everything was painted from scratch, this was before the wonders of Merchant Resources!)

**lwperkins** - Does Face-Off have a script for Stephanie.  The last image I posted was rendered with HyperRealV3, after I just swapped out the texture Maps(UV.)  BTW - I really thought I'd made a much better quality GIF than that(...ah I see clicking the image shows my upload)  Here is a repost; but as I just noticed only swapping the texture, from the resulting HyperShader, does'nt really work; becasue some of the support textures, that come with the script, are also V3 UVs.  Hence the slight copyright notice we can see across her neck.  I'd discussed this with Face-Off, and will be IM'ing him a link to this image; thanks!

Also, I've been wondering if anyone know how to add Eye Reflects to Stephanie?  I tried applying a V3 Cornea material, to S1's Eyeball material zone, but it did'nt work?

lwperkins ( ) posted Sun, 20 January 2008 at 7:55 PM

I hadn't thought of that! I had assumed that the script applied generic noise/specularity to whatever was loaded--shows how little I know! On the other hand if you ignore the copyright mark the skin does look pretty neat--and I love the lips! You know, I seem to remember that Blackhearted's Blackeyes worked on Steph Classic really well, and they had the more realistic mesh that the later Mil figures like V3 had, so you could add those too for even more realism.
I have to say I am loving how fast Old Steph renders and runs in P7;-)

ccbig ( ) posted Mon, 21 January 2008 at 10:43 AM

SP3 is the much more realistic in relative body height of most real life females and thus is one of my favorites to use. (If you think she has large feet her full body morphs have a petite foot dial.) I have as many of the extra add-on morphs as I could find and afford. I use V3 skin textures on her often because of the frustratingly lack of characters made for her. Irina 2.0 is a great body morph for her and Thone & sarsa also have some excellent figures for her. If you are willing to retexture or otherwise customize clothing items you can stretch her wardrobe further. I like her. I wish Rederosity would encourage more venders to make more products for her and the male figures so we could have some diversity! ccbig (Cully)

Peelo ( ) posted Mon, 21 January 2008 at 11:45 PM

Yeah. I Iike SP3 as well. I think she looks really pretty and her default body shape is just great (way better than V3 or v4 even). So she has clownfeet, I'll give you that, but she is really cute anyway. SP3 has personality, character. That's something that poser models usually lack. Sp3 is stil my favourite female model in da poserdom.

Aw, butterfly_fish, she's adorable in your avatar! That's a nice texture!

butterfly_fish ( ) posted Tue, 22 January 2008 at 9:40 AM

Thanks.  :-)  She's my Brooke character.  I got tired of only a couple of people (like Thorne) having cute Steph characters, so I made my own.  LOL.  Amy (Rebelmommy) has a really nice Steph called Shayna over at RDNA, and there are a handful of others around, but yeah.  Not too much to choose from.  I still love Steph, though.  I think I may need to go get her a CrossDresser license so she has more to wear.

Wasn't there a Paris Hilton morph for SP3 back in the day, called "Heiress" or something? :>

Was that for Steph? I didn't remember that.  Yeah, DAZ pulled Heiress and strongly suggested that buyers not use it.  Probably didn't want to get sued by the Hilton family.

Thank you butterfly_fish for the information! Has anyone else tried the Celeste items for SP3? I only recently found & bought them. The clothing items are very good IMHO.

Yep, I have those.  I got them in a sale a few months back.  I like them a lot. :-D
