Subject: Poser 6 crashing in material

fosterscreations ( ) posted Tue, 04 September 2007 at 10:23 AM · edited Sat, 01 February 2025 at 7:39 AM

I had posted this in the Poser7 crash thread but thought I should start a new topic. I am hoping someone can help me.

Quote - "Tech support sent me this response...

*Quote -Some people who have purchased and installed Poser 6 or 7 have encountered problems in which Poser will exit unexpectedly on launch, upon switching rooms, or in other circumstances. This is often caused by conflicts between Poser's OpenGL-based preview engine and the video drivers installed on the system. The cure is actually quite simple- first, ensure that your video card drivers have been updated to the latest version. Even if you updated as recently as a few months ago, it's worth checking back at the manufacturer's website; we've been working with several video card manufacturers to ensure that their drivers and our software work well together.

For details and links to manufacturers' driver download pages, see this Knowledge Base article-

Windows Vista users in particular should ensure that they have the latest drivers as this issue has been known to arise under Vista; this article (http://www.e-frontier.com/article/articleview/2127/1/858/) describes some other suggestions for Vista owners.

If updating the drivers doesn't solve the problem, you may have to reduce the hardware acceleration settings for the card as described in the article referenced above.

I hope this helped.

I have updated my drivers. P5 works great with Vista. P6 works fine until I go into the material room to change a texture of clothing that doesn't have a mat-pose. As soon as I try to change the texture or just change the color it locks up the entire computer and I have to turn it off and back on again. I make sure I save what I am working on before going to the material room so I don't have to completely start over. But this is nuts.

I tried lowering my hardware accelleration but it is dithered and states my driver does not allow for it to be changed.

I have heard great things about the materia room in P6 but honestly right now I am not seeing it.

Also in my preview window the only way I can see my figure and what I have applied is to use the sreed setting instead of open GL.

Any suggestions. I have SR1 and SR2. Do I have to uninstall P6 and start over?

thanks,
Shannon

Poser 6 had 3 SR's, you might want to try updating it to SR3!

I am running it on Vista Ultimate 64 and not seeing your problem, I have SR3 installed!
My graphics are Nvidia 8600GT with latest drivers!

I think Vista has a WinXP compatability mode. Since I uninstalled Vista I can not recall the way it's done but I think it involves a right click on the Poser.exe or the same on the desk top icon. Maybe someone using Vista can give the specifices. From what I've read that WinXP compatability mode has made the difference for some when they've had stability problems with Poser or any progy in Vista.

My brain is just a toy box filled with weird things

Thanks for your help. I am not quite sure what fixed the problem as I tried several things that were recommended. It appears to be working fine now.
Thanks again for you help.

i actually uninstalled Vista and installed XP SP3 in my system... yet someone told me that in doing so I'm losing performance (my computer it s a pentium core 2 duo with 3 gigs of RAM)... yet I don't know... Poser it's still considerably slow with my machine (I mentioned this in another thread, just in case)...

I was wondering if someone could recommend or dis-recommend installing Vista again... will it really improve the performance of my machine, or actually bog it down?

EDIT
I just realized i don't have the SR 3 for Poser 6.... plaf!!  I'll start looking for it

Well I've been using Vista for a while now and I find it perfectly acceptable! I'm using Ultimate 64 and it was put in as the OS on a new build so maybe that helped!
My main software is Poser 6 and 7, Vue6Infinite and Photoshop CS3!
