I'll pass on the kfc, but just to mention that, prior to the upgrade, the html editor worked
in 2 of my 4 browsers.ย  now it only works in 1 of my 4 browsers.ย  I reckon I must be
grateful that it hasn't shut me out compleatly yet

Even if I've done what is written, it still doesn't work with firefox, so I'm with Internet Explorer and I have other technical problems

KarenJ ( ) posted Tue, 29 January 2008 at 12:31 AM

If you are still having problems, please try this:

"OK, the programmers have suggested that if you are still having problems, try clearing your cache and immediately closing Firefox, rebooting your machine, and try again with Firefox. [or whatever other browser you're using]

They've also advised that the new editor version should work with Opera 9.5 and above, and Safari 3.x and up, so if you're able to try one of those instead we could see if that works for you?"

[or whatever other browser you're using]" It still doesn't work with firefox but it's what you can see when using internet explorer

PS:I dont get any notification via mail when you reply!!!

The new editor fails to work when I use Netscape 7.2.ย

... and, yes I did clear the browser cache.ย

This change will be very inconvenient if not corrected.ย

BTW, which browsers were tested before releasing the new editor to the wild?

Hi Martin,

From my previous post:
"They've also advised that the new editor version should work with Opera 9.5 and above, and Safari 3.x and up."

Netscape has never been supported.

Lior,

Which version of Firefox are you using please?

just to confirm, html editor icons don't display in firefox 2.x, and often
the current page never finishes loading.
if yer coders are saying "reboot the machine", that's just sad IMVHO.
it implies they have no experience with OS X, for example, which is
somewhere between 4 and 7% or yer user base.

butterfly_fish ( ) posted Wed, 30 January 2008 at 12:43 PM

It's working fine for me in Firefox (2.0.0.11) now.ย  After clearing the cache, two reboots, and a lot of yelling, that is.ย  But I'm running XP.

I see that karen1573 is aware that the,

[programmers] advised that the new editor version should work with
Opera 9.5 and above, and Safari 3.x and up

Does this mean that they didn't test with M$ Internet Exploiter?ย

I have 2 other questions for the programmers ...

  1. which version of Java is required for the new editor?ย

  2. what problems are solved by the new editor?ย

Martin

p.s. For the time being, I am forced to post my replies using M$ Internet Exploiter.ย

nruddock ( ) posted Wed, 30 January 2008 at 8:11 PM

Quote - 1. which version of Java is required for the new editor?

The editor is written in Javascript, which is built-in to browsers.

Quote - 2. what problems are solved by the new editor?

Here's a link to the changelog -> http://www.fckeditor.net/whatsnew
As 2.5.1 was released in December, it doesn't seem unreasonable that that's the version Renderosity just upgraded to.

KarenJ ( ) posted Thu, 31 January 2008 at 8:07 AM

Martin, the Opera and Safari compatibility is in addition to IE and FF.

What is your preferred browser?

I see that karen1573 wanted to know,

What is your preferred browser?

As I said earlier in this message thread, Netscape 7.2.ย

I use and continue to use that browser becaus of my 1000's of
bookmarks and my 10 years of eMail archives.ย

Having to open a M$ Internet Exploiter instance in order to reply to each
message in a thread, or to a site mail is ... annoying ... to say the least.ย

In addition, since M$ Internet Exploiter handles browser font size differently
than Netscape, ... and uses a smaller default font size than I would like,
message text is much more difficult for me to read.ย

Martin

p.s. Please encourage the programmers to test this sort of change before
simply releasing the change to the wild.ย  In addition, they could offer a web
page for the user community to test and comment on such a proposed
change for a time period of ... say, one week ... then after the comment
period, deploy the change.ย

That way, the members will feel involved ... and appreciated.ย

KarenJ ( ) posted Thu, 31 January 2008 at 10:02 AM

Hi Martin,

Netscape isn't supported by the FCK editor.

FYI, this editor is not developed in-house. It's open source.

Does Netscape not have a function where you can export your bookmarks to HTML and your mail to archive?

I see that **karen1573** had a question about,

Netscape ... a function where you can export your bookmarks to HTML
and your mail to archive?

That would be a Data Base Conversion ... I would tread very carefully if I
ever go in that direction.ย

The image should give you an Idea how I would feel ...ย

The caption reads,
"About that data Base Conversion, sir.ย

butterfly_fish ( ) posted Thu, 31 January 2008 at 11:17 AM

In both IE and Firefox, if you go to View->Text Sizeย  you can change the default font size.

Unfortunately, I think you're going to find fewer and fewer things supporting Netscape.ย  Not too many people are still using it.

Yes, stats gathered by TheCounter.com indicate that Netscape is now used by only about 0.06% of users.

I took note that karen1573 feels that,

Netscape isn't supported by the FCK editor.

I don't know where you heard that ... Iย urge you to visit the FCK Editorย home page.

On the right side of that page, you will see a section headed, "Compatibility"

... when you roll your cursor over the Netscape icon, you will learn that Netscape 7.1
(and subsequent releases) are supported.ย  ... When you roll your cursor over the OS
choices on the lower row of icons, you will learn that Netscape is supported in all
3 listed OS.ย

Hi Hanna,

Sorry, we won't be doing that. Netscape is now used by less than 0.06% of users. If you don't like IE (and who can blame you?) I'd suggest Opera, Firefox, or Safari instead.

Indoda,

Do you have a javascript enabled in the options?

for example: I learnย from the internet - among other things: tutorials on graphics
Netscape is the ONLY ONE that allows c+paste with images and text togetherย  - it
helps me a lotย  to learn!

Hi Hanna,

Firefox allows copy/paste of images and text, and it also retains embedded links.

Hey Khai,

Feel free to carry on being annoyed ;o)

I have not been able to access the right-click spell-check for several versions, and I believe this is a known issue.

Edited to clarify:
There have been several versions of the FCK editor in which I've experienced the right-click spell-check not working, and this is one of them. There have also been several in which it has worked for me.

making a joke about it does NOT help at all.
I've not been able to post since the 28th of Jan, until I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. I thought you were going to talk to the programmers?

sorry if you thought I was joking, but I am more than annoyed now and wondering what the professional level of the site is.

KarenJ ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2008 at 12:44 PM

Khai,

I'm sorry if you thought I was making light.

I resent the issue to the programmers several times, but they continued to state that the problem was most likely with your set-up. Seeing as you have now uninstalled and reinstalled FF and got it working, that would seem to bear out what they said?

Khai ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2008 at 12:48 PM

but it does not tell us what the problem is does it?

and I only did that since I got NO feedback from the site at all. not ONCE did I hear from you, (other than the post saying 'sorry I thought you fixed it'), or the 'programming team' asking for more information.

I've been asking ppl to post replys to questions asked for gods sake!

KarenJ ( ) posted Mon, 25 February 2008 at 1:31 PM

No, I'm sorry Khai, it doesn't tell us what the problem was, which I know is not particularly helpful.

(Unfortunately it's been my experience that this is often the case with computer problems...)

I am sorry that I have not got back to you. I have been dealing with a bereavement and haven't actually been here very much myself. (Not an excuse, just an FYI.)

I'm very glad to see you back, although I wish we knew what had caused/solved the problem :-

FCKing editor is right. After weeks of being virtually banned from rosity due to being unable to post at all, I've been FORCED to change browsers. That isn't right. I prefer to use Mozilla 6. It worked for me. Any site as public and as important as this one is should support ALL browsers.
Funny that the CGtalk editor NEVER gave me any posting problems and it's pretty much identical to this one. Wonder how they manage to do it when no one here seems to be able to.
