Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
If you also buy my v4 to V3 remap (for $21 here in the MP), then you can continue to use all of your old V3 skin textures with her, and it won't be like yor starting all over from scratch.
Also, you can download my PosetteV3 and DorkM3 remaps (Free here in Freestuff) and then Pose Posette, V3 and V4.1 and Mike3 and Dukem3 (aka Dork) in a happy Poser/DAZ family reunion -All wearing the same skin texture! ;=D
If you should browse my gallery here, you'll see some of my renders where I did exactly that. So it needn't be a whole new start, but rather a continuity and extension of what you already have.

Theres a clothing converter that you buy only the plugin for the character converting too, so if you only want to do V4 its just $10.
I believe its called crossdresser. You might search forums for opinions on it though, I havent used it.
V4 is a nice figure , but hard to make look different , it always seems to look like V4.
I haven't bought the remapped V4, but if you have a lot of V3 textures, this could be a way. For clothes and props I use Wardrobe Wizard 2, which works great. I still like Miki 2 a bit more, but V4 surely is a great piece of work - and no, I am not a die-hard Vicky fan. Miki looks more real IMHO, but V4's rig seems to be better. I will see which figure I will use more often, I do not know yet.
Attached a picture of a morphed V4 wearing Aery Souls Vanilla pants, converted with WW2. Yes, actually I like her more than I expected earlier. But if you own WW or Crossdresser, the amount of money you need shouldn't be that big.

I see so many comments bashing V4, but I find her a much better looking model than V3. And as said, if you buy the XDresser license for $10 you wont have to rebuy tonnes of clothing.
In my opinion V4 is more realistic than V3. The morphs are more natural and she is also easier to pose. She is also the future in regards of merchant support. I think it's good to have as many figures as possible to variate your artwork. In regards of clothes conversion, I do prefer wardrobe wizard because it allows morphs to be taken over, respectively to be injected into the new clothing. I also have the Crossdresser but you need to inject your morphs yourself using for example Netherworks morph kits which is more complicated. If you need a lot of figure licenses and morph kits, the price difference between the free crossdresser and WW isn't that big. If of yourse, you don't want to morph the figure CD will do :-) Skin textures can also be converted like mentioned above.. I think V4 is definately worth it...
Well, here is my take.
Since I started with Poser V3 has always been my character of choice to work with....mainly because at first everyone was "v3" this and that due to the fact that there really weren't a whole lot of choices other than the poser figures and the Daz ones. In time I expanded to also include Aiko as one of my favourites because I started to see more character packages that were getting away from that Anime look which I'm not a huge fan of (though now it's grown on me and I find some of them cute).
When V4 first came out I wasn't one to jump on the bandwagon because I'm not one that has to have the newest toy as soon as they come out.
I did eventually end up buying V4 mainly because I saw a few character packages that were cute and some cute looking clothing for her that thanks to Wardrobe Wizard I can use on V3 and Aiko, but I needed to have the figure in my library to do so.
TBH I don't really care for V4 all that much. Her eyes look weird to me and I can't get used to the way she functions in the parameter dials. Plus it seems that so many characters being sold for her look so much like each other, and the skin textures look plastic. Now that is no fault of the figure itself, but a figure is only as good as the products available to support it.
These days the only time she is usually loaded into my Poser is when I want to convert some of her clothing to another figure, or when I'm beta testing stuff for her. Other than that my figures of choice are still V3 and Aiko.
One thing that I do like about the V4 figure though is the fact that sometimes the clothing is made so that it accepts the V4 character morphs, so all you have to do is INJ the character into the figure and then into the clothing and the clothing automatically fits, even when posed. However that isn't a feature with all of V4 clothing, just some.
There are way more freebies available for V3 than there is for V4, both in clothing, props, and character morphs/textures. So if you are looking for value for your money, then stick with V3.
If you are one that needs every new toy on the block, then go ahead and buy V4 and then decide for yourself if she is "worth" it, because basically it really depends on what you are looking for in a figure.

Yes I think it is worth it, Aery Soul is the ones whom got me to get it. I blame them, it's all their fault. Aint they great...

I think it is worth to get V4. I purchased it before the new year with the promotional price. I would like to suggest that you get the complete version, not just the base. I'm impressed with the morph dials, they looks complicated but after spending time with it. I can create something that does not look like Victoria from head to toes. I'm using DAZ|Studio. I've heard that it doesn't perform very well in Poser. I've no clue because I'm not a Poser's user. To see how well it can morph, take a look at my morph. Without any customized morph, just by using the dials. That's the result:
You can see the comparison by taking a look at my avatar, which is the morph I created by using Blender for using with Aiko 3 LE.
I monitored the number of downloads of my morph, it is not as popular as my Aiko 3 or Victoria 3 counterpart. I still work on Aiko 3 because it consumes less computing power. Many of the users of my freebies still prefer Aiko 3 or Victoria 3. As a freebie creator, I prepared for the changes.
Dude - I started with Posette. V4 is a HUGE improvement in joints, not seen since the PT Milgirl mesh (which I used to morph into an adult figure simply because V2 bent so horribly). I can actually make passable human motion and posing without postwork now. The only other figures I use besides it nowadays is Aiko3 and Terai Yuki... and maybe Laura once in awhile. I'm even about to embark on one hell of a Runtime purge, if that tells you anything. :) /P
Quote - Has everyone forgotten the dead ends that were Ingenue Vicky and Laura? They had great potential, but just faded away. I think V4 will end up the same way.
Besides, I can't afford to start over with a new model.
They both inherited the horrible bends of V3. No matter what you say, people just don't like to play around with joint params or morphs. At least V4 has gone a long way to reduce the problems, given Poser's stone age rigging. Yes, V4 has a pug ugly default shape and face but at least it doesn't bend like glass.

No she's not worth it at all. As said in another thread, I'm glad I didn't spent much money on her, since almost all of it is unused still. All she seems to be good for is pinup and sensual stuff and I'm not into that.

You're judging the model by what you see in the galleries. Any model is as good for anything as any other, depending on the imagination of the artist.

I've lurked for awhile and I'll throw my two scant cents in....
To me, V4 is very worth it. Why? She bends better & morphs better. People say you can't "un-V4" her face which is not entirely true, just requires some effort.
I find that characters for V3 pretty much look the same after awhile, I think I've seen the same shaped nose & lips too many times to count.
Gen 3 & Gen 2 females have, what I would call, "monkey-faces"...they tend to go flat when you morph any ethnic features, no depth, no noses that stick out like real people's do, & flat uber-smooched up lips. That too can be worked on IF one puts the effort in. I've done it with SP3's god-awful default horse face just using the morph dials.
Expressions are another matter, I hate trying V3's, V4's are much much better.
It would really depend on what you want to use your figures for & how comfortable you are with them.
I use V4 the most because I like her the most, but I break out the older figures as well, I like them too.
Each has it's use & unique charm.
I would say buy V4, try her out, if you don't like her before 30 days are up from purchase, get your money back & be happy with what you have. :)

I'm not, I've actually own her and I'm also going by what content you can get.... and that mainly seems to be going into one direction.

Wardrobe Wizard will get you just about any clothes you want. Your own imagination does the rest.

"Is anyone absolutely ecstatic with V4".
Yup.
V4 is the best money I've ever spent on a figure. Her rigging is a lot better, and she bends and poses much better than V3 ever did. Her expression morphs are much more natural and easy to use, a huge leap from V3. Plus, it's very easy to change the way her face looks so that she doesn't have that "V4" look. By far the best female figure available.

Lately, my "go to" female is Aiko 3 but that's simply because it's dead easy to make it look like a lot of women I know here in what we laughingly refer to as "real life". That said, I have gotten a couple of reasonable likenesses out of V4, without too much difficulty.
I love the jointing on V4. It seems DAZ sometimes do listen to their customers. The texture mapping, however... Oy!

-How can you improve things when you don't make mistakes?
basic v4 without either purchased extra morphs or a fair bit of time spent on dials is disappointing - legs are disproportionately big - the head small - overall shape is more playdoh than human anatomy - which seems to be the price of the joint flexibility
if you want a realistic figure I would say mikki 2 was much better out of the box - then again at least daz made an effort with cross compatibility
There are several figures (female) that I could not live without for Poser, V4, Kururu, and Miki2 being the top 3 I use.

I feel very silly asking this, but I'm wondering how to spend my Christmas money.
I suppose it's inevitable. I always hate starting over all over again, especially after 3 years blowing money on V3.
There is probably no escape. Can't stay stuck in the past.
(What if I had decided to stick with V2, with those bad teeth?)
I like the Lucy Liu character available for V4 because there isn't one for V3 anymore.
I like the Hallie Berry one too.
Is anyone absolutely ecstatic with V4, and think she is the cure for everything, and has vast potential?
