Subject: Vue 6 Infinite and 64 Bit?

Hi all,

i will be getting a new server which has an AMD Phenom Quadcore with 8 GB of RAM.

I am currently trying to find out which Operating System will be the best to use for this machine. I only plan on using it as a standalone network rendering node, so i dont care for any other features. What is important to me:

  • Vue 6 infinite must run as stable as possible
  • The 64 Bit/8 GB RAM should be used with maximum performance.

SO i thought about the possible candidates:

  • Windows XP Professional X64 Edition
  • Windows Server 2003 Standard X64
  • Windows Vista X64

I must admit i am generally against Vista as i made very bad experiences with it regarding performance and compatibility. But i would like to hear the oppinion of some folks that really use a 64 Bit machine, what's your experience?

Vue functions well on my Windows XP Professional X64 Edition. Video drivers and the high def audio driver presented problems. The video was resolved by installing an older driver. Mileage will vary.

As my primary art machine, vista ultimate rocks, but, it's currently a bit of a pest with networking, having to set permissions etc. Does work ,just extra steps that shouldn't be there, hopefully service pack 1 will fix those.

Vista Ultimate 64, Vue works like a dream, no OOM's, can do what I want, how I want!! Terrific!!
And now my tool tips are showing again in mouse over it's even better!!
Also 8 Gig RAM!

Let me add a vote for XP 64 bit. As a professional Linux programmer it kind of sticks in my craw to say that a Microsoft product works, but it does. I have an nvidia video card. That could be significant.
