Subject: Poser 5,6,7, plus files and filename compatibility

I read somewhere there is a length limitation on filenames for Poser 5. Limited to 16 characters. Does anyone know what the file name length (maximum character count) is for Poser 6 and Poser 7?

kind regards
mol

I have ones far longer than that, I think the filename length limits are for earlier versions of Poser when running on a MAC but I'm not 100% sure.

One would think that this is OS dependent.  Windows and MacOS X allow individual filenames up to 256 characters, including the suffix (iirc).  Suffice to say, the longer the filename, the more difficult it might be to read in the Library.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Many thanks for replying so quickly. i have been converting some material files for a product I have been working on into Pose files. Just to make things a bit simpler fo the user. I noticed, oddly, a couple of them failed to work first time and wondered if it was the fact that my file names are quite long [to help me remember what they are :( ].

I now think after your replies, it is a cache, memory, floder-refresh thing, but not certain.

Both Poser anf Daz are a nightmare with absolute or indirect references to filenames and directories. I really appreciate both of your help as it has saved me a lot of time testing for for the possibility of this.

Many thanks, I am indebted!

Another thing to watch for: The names of body parts and materials
inside Poser (not the file names) can't be longer than 10 characters.

I think this may have been loosened up in later versions, but it's
best to keep such names short for compatibility.
