I really like your design.

One thing, not necessary, but if you want to get noticed by webcrawlers (bots that get you unto search engines) there should be text onyour splash page.

You don't have to add it though. Just write your text, for example a header  "The photography of Olivier Delvigne" and some text like "on this site you will find photographs etc..."

wrap these h4 (or ( or 2...) and p in a div that you give a class = "invisible" and set the rule for class invisible to display: none;

Do this for all images that replace header texts.

Bots react to text, and they can't read images.

Not really, no.

Meta data will influence how you are classified. Choosing the right keywords is important.
Too many people have abused keywords, and search engines now try to get a better classification system.
Therefore, the robots now also check your page to find whether the content actually matches those keywords. They have to do this by checking the text.
So if you use images, it's best to also have text. Not only as alt and title inside the img tag, but also in just plain text. This text you can either hide (as explained above) or project into outer space by setting a margin left or right of, say, 9000pixels.

But it is not obligatory. It only helps you up in the rating, and into the first pages rather than at the bottom of the last one.

Two points on user interface:

The gallery thumbs are cropped smaller versions and do not give a good image of what the photo you are about to open looks like in its entirety - the picture of the moon is a good example of this - i thought it might be a streetlight in the image and had no idea what the rest of the image would look like.  Maybe just resized thumbnails would work better (this has always been a thing of mine when viewing images in the galleries here - i dont see the point in cropping a thumb when sometimes the complete image is a lot better as thumbs arent there for detail but a representation of the image and the main thing you can see at that size is a composition.. (and on rare occasion it is the opposite - the thumb composition is better than the full-size)

Also the gallery is a click to see the image, image loads, close image, click to see next image... there is no way to "browse" by clicking on next which is a time saving method for a user who only wants to see the images, not have to work to do so.

One minor thing is that the gallery list might benefit from a representative thumbnail of what the words mean, for instance: "Colours : Scenes of the Life" is a fairly broad concept... and the grey background coupled with the gradient banners seems to glare at me and my eye finds it difficult concentrate on the left hand side writing and instead drawn to the glare in the middle created by the gradient mixed with the background.

Hope that helps, i'm only noting what i see and being honest about it, and it is only my opinion on the matter :)

Rich, the goal with this kind of thumbnail is to 'pick' your imagination, and then discover completely the image.
Great idea to use another way to present the differents kinds of picture ! i will work on it :OD

Just replace the brackets where necessary, copy and paste innotepad, save and save the image to the same folder. Nothing changes visually.
But for the crawlers, the text is there.

the alt in the img tag is for the hearing impaired. It is a good havbit to add it. The title makes the text appear when you mouse over the image.

The more you add your name on the page  and what the site is all about, the more google etc like your site. And rank it better.
It'll be easy to get the first place for your name, but a keyword like "photography" is used thousands and thousands of times. Adding text may help you up in the ranking.

You must have a personal shutterspeed of at least 1/100000th!

I'd add at least the metatags to all pages and the text trick on top, where you have your banner code.
I'll add an idea for the banner later today or tomorrow (lots of work right now!)
