Subject: Can anyone explain the process of zipping custom poser stuff..?

marcus55 ( ) posted Mon, 11 February 2008 at 1:03 PM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 9:18 AM

This may have been covered somewhere in the forums, although I have looked and haven't found much on the subject of taking custom poser stuff;  such as props, light sets, poses, materials, etc., and putting them into a zip format so they can be saved and shared with other poser users..

I have searched through my poser directories looking for the custom light sets I created because I want to save them (zip-burn-to-CD),
and even though I know they are there, I cannot find them anywhere...
I must be looking in the wrong places..  anyway, can anyone explain in a step-by-step format how to do this?

I am a fairly new poser user, so I need a little extra help in this regard...

thanks much,
M

Okay  read this

Make a folder on your desktop called > runtime
In that folder you use the same folders as you have in your poser/runtime folder.
In that you make the folders you use in your item
Lets say you made a prop
You make the libraries folder in the runtime folder
and then the props folder, and if you like a folder with the item name
like runtime,libraries,props,marcus55, and in that you put the prop.
And so you do with the textures etc etc..
ALL files and folders must me "copyed" to the runtime folder on your desktop.
WHEN your done ZIP the runtime folder and RENAME it when zipped

that way the zip works fine with 99,9 % of the users

DONT call you folder anything else but runtime otherwise extracting does not work
Just rename after zipping!!

I hope this give you some directions

Just ask for more info when needed..

Thanks to you both for the above posts..   I copied the info for reference purposes...

That gives me most of what I was looking for, but I am still baffled by one thing....

When I go into the poser directories to find my custom light sets, props, materials, etc., to locate the files to be zipped, I do not find anything in any of the folders with the names I gave them within poser...

It's strange, I've looked through all the folders, the runtime in poser 7 and the runtime in the downloads section (this is where I save most of my stuff..) and I do not see anything with the names I gave them when I saved them to the poser library..   I have looked in other folders as well, being utterly mystified why I cannot find the file names anywhere...

I am not sure where they are, or perhaps I should be looking somewhere else, or perhaps poser doesn't use the library names, or perhaps I should be saving this stuff in a different place?

You guys may have already answered this question, and if so I apologize, but I do not understand why I cannot find any of the files with the names I gave them anywhere in the poser folders..

Oh, also I forgot to mention...

Much thanks to you PhilC for your Matrix-style long coat and shades,
I recently found them and downloaded them. They are excellent, I think they are better than the ones I see people asking money for, you are very kind to make them available for a free download!!!

Thanks!
M

Okay .. maybe i have a other nice tip..
COPY a Shortcut to your RUNTIME onto your desktop
You beter change the thumbnail so you wont confuse it with a "runtime" folder already on the desktop.
Thit way you can easy ad a folder to the runtime of poser.
Im not sure what you are looking for.. when you made a light setting it should be in the lights folder..
BETER to make a new folder "Marcus55" in the light folder ..
Then in Poser you will see that Marcus55 folder when you save into it inside poser
You sure should find it later  ..

Okay, I finally found all the files...   lol

I don't know what happened the other day when I was looking for them, but I wasn't looking in the right place because they are right there in my downloads folder where I put them...   (I think I'm losin' it sometimes,  hehe).

actually, I have so much content installed that it gets a little ugly looking for things at times...

anyway, thanks a lot for the tips, I know how to do it now..

I think it might be a good idea to have some experienced poser people try out my stuff before I post it for download, that way they could point out any flaws and I could fix 'em first..

take care,
M
