Subject: Pro Studio 2 Infinite

Hi all.

Yes this is a stupid question, but for the upgrade cost of $300 I just have to be sure.
Is the upgrade from Pro Studio to Infinite worth it for me right now if all I would like to do at this moment is start mixing real photography with Vue.

From the chart on E-on it looks to me like Infinite supports using images as backdrops, where pro studio can't.

After that I would be looking at getting into all the other features of vue I guess.

Regards.
James.

How about downloading the PLE version and testing? This will tell you best wether an update is worth it for you or not.

If I understand correctly, you can use images as backdrops in Pro Studio. Select your main camera, and in the settings palette on the upper right, you'll see an icon that looks like a screen on a tripod with a star on it. Click that and you'll be able to select your background image. I haven't been able to import an image sequence for animated backgrounds like the dialog seems to suggest I can, but I've often imported single images for still backgrounds.

Of course, I'm having some other severe problems with Vue right now (posting them elsewhere shortly), so my advice should be taken with a grain of salt... ;)

There are several "biggie" differences with Infinite:  Painting ecosystems and python scripting.  They are only available in Infinite and open up a whole new world of things to do.

There are many other increased improvements in the function generator, light controls, etc that are subtle, but critical when you need them.  I'll second the recomendation to try the PLE.  Once you paint your first ecosystem, you'll upgrade!

YOu did not say from what version you were upgrading from.  If from 5 I would go for the upgrade, burt if you have Pro Studio 6 then I would wait until 7 before I go to Inf.

As mentioned, Pro Studio does support background images.

Hi all.

Thanks a million for your advice.

I tried that with the camera and it worked. I was able to slip a background image in with easy. Kind of annoyed now though that I didn't spot this myself :-) I didn't know the Pro Studio edition could do that and the E-on website really threw me off.

Anyway.... it does what I want so I'm happy.

I downloaded the PLE edition too and I see what you mean about painting eco's WOW...!!!!! That's freaking amazing.

Quote - Peggy_Walters ..... Once you paint your first ecosystem, you'll upgrade!

Ha... !!! True... so true.

Yeah, I'm going to take the plunge and upgrade. Just seems to far more creative than Pro Studio.

Thanks a million for all your advice.

Kind Regards.
James.

I upgraded from 6 Pro Studio to 6 Infinite download nodelocked, and installed it in XP64 for the 64 bit version. Definitely worth the upgrade.
