THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Different Booleans?

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Tue, 18 March 2008 at 12:31 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 2:31 AM

Has anyone got any different boolean shapes for use in Bryce?

Firstly and most importantly a boolean torus?

Then any other booleans shapes?

Just for an idea I've had...

all standard Bryce primitives can participate in boolean operations, so I'm not understanding your question.

the very first boolean operation I did with Bryce 2 was to use a negative torus to cut a tunnel through a positive terrain shape.

if it wasn't for boolean operations in Bryce 2, I never would have moved up from Bryce 1.  I hated Bryce 2 when it first came out, but the lure of boolean operations made me persevere.

Fran: Go to Freestuff and look for stuff from SPACEBONES. He has all sorts of different prims which might be helpful to you.

It's simply a torus that is boolean... can be negative or positive or neutral. It is one of the limited primitives in Bryce. :tongue1:

Yeah, not a Bryce Torus  - I wanted a Bryce Boolean Torus.

Thinks a bit... engaging brain cell.... brummmm!

Better yet a MetaTorus - yeah that's what I meant.
Been trying to boolean a dome with a Wings Torus but Bryce doesn't like it...

Oh well, ended up modelling the whole thing in Wings....

I just wondered if anyone had made a torus from Metaballs.... would have saved me a lot of time, oh well too late now, this is what I was making:

Long ago I tried to boolean a hole in the side of a ship mesh to create a wreck. I couldn't make it work. I finally realized I had to click the E for edit then check the button next to the text "Solid When Boolean Rendering" That might be the problem with your Wings torus because imported objects have this unchecked by default.

Hmmm, ah, yes it might well be.  Didn't think of that.

Thanks.

I'd still prefer a meta torus, especially one that would meld with both other normal metaballs as well as negative ones... and negative meta tori.

That'a the trouble with going to all the time and work involved in making a metaball torus only to group it and instantly loose its ability to meld with anything else...

Bryce 7 needs a Metalab.

Now if DAZ was just a little more supportive we could all go over there and....

....threaten to beat them up unless they made us a MetaLab.

ROFL!

Worse yet we could threaten to force feed them my wifes cooking...trust me that is worse than any beating you could dish out :m_scared:

5 mins with a pencil an paper (for the maths lol )
then use multireplicate on a metaball
and u got a metaball torus

FranOnTheEdge ( ) posted Thu, 20 March 2008 at 1:57 PM · edited Thu, 20 March 2008 at 1:58 PM

heddheld,

Yes, but the moment you group them all to make a torus they won't meld with any other metas,

and if you keep them ungrouped, you can loose one - or more - especially if you need to move the lot somewhere else,

and it becomes even more difficult if you manage to get the torus to meld with something else, and then need to move the torus and the something else to another location yet keeping them exactly in place in relation to each other... etc etc every time you need more metas...

mind you lots of metas kills Bryce...

Of course I guess you could group and ungroup all the time, but heck... what a hassle.**
