Subject: it is the first day of spring!

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, everything is new again.  Even Poser!  Oh wait... guess it is still winter in Poserville.  I love it when venders miss even vavague deadlines like "winter."

3/20/08 (or there about)

When there was a hint that Poser 7 might be late, hundreds of flaming EMails scorched through cyberspace at every forum. This one has passed without a ripple in the virtual internet-scape. It seems that most people have just lost interest. That's a shame really; I had hoped that there would be a Poser 8.

I expect that this will never be "officially" mentioned by SM/CP. It didn't really happen did it? They will have their CP birthday party tomorrow, and probably never figure out that they insensitively scheduled it on and limited it to the Sabbath and Good Friday. P7P will limp out on its debut day, whenever, and maybe we will eventually notice.

It's not uncommon at all for software developers to have late releases.

The last version of lightwave was released 8 months late in a beta tester form, and now, 2.5 years LATER they are still adding promised features that should have been in it's release.

Zbrush announced zbrush 3.0, and then released IT 2 years later.

Daz talked about dynamic clothing and rigging for Daz studio almost 2 years ago as well.

Silo2's release went from "any day now" to about 8 months later.

Unreal Tournament 3 was originally titled UT2005... then UT2006... then UT2007.

Duke Nukem forever has had about 20 release dates, and has been in development hell now for almost 10 YEARS!

So poser pro is a little late.. I'd much rather see more bugs squashed, then be wating for a service release batch.

I think the poserverse finally realized that the world Is NOT perfect, and complicated software releases come out when they are done.. not because a specific date has occurred.

I think you just want it released so you can bitch and moan about missing features, or bugs. ;)

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

LOL, Duke Nukem Forever!  Look up "late/vapor" software in the dictionary...   Anyway, I actually don't have plans to upgrade until people post a few weeks worth of horror or success stories online.  I just think its interesting that they took the "comming in Winter" off the website and replaced it with "soon" on or near the first day of spring.  Delays are one thing, but at least they aren't trickling out the features like they did with P7.  I'll take a delay any time over that marketing gimmick.

There's nobody who wants to see PoserPro released more than I do. And yet, I'm willing to give SM slack to make sure that the program, when released, works as advertised.

It will be released when it's released.

The forums have been slow lately, there isn’t much of interest to read or write about. Holiday distractions? I like this subject, and even the “wait, don’t worry, and don’t talk about it” posts interest me. :)

How does the observation that a program is late in its release equate to a deep and evil desire to get a buggy program to complain about or the naiveté to believe that Poser is the only imperfect thing in an otherwise perfect world? From the spectacle and confusion at DAZ with the release of V4.2, I doubt that the Poser/D|S community has learned anything about patience. Apathy is a better explanation for the disinterest in P7P.

I have been working with computers since the late 60’s when we programmed them with wires and gates. I hope I never see another Boolean algorithm table again. I have seen plenty of products that were late, but I never saw one that was perfected. If SM can accomplish that, they need Guinness level recognition. I have also seen many long promised and expected products and updates that never got released. [Shudder]

I don’t think any of us want Poser Pro released before it is ready. We could take a poll, but I am sure the “wait and get a better product” choice will win. It seems that the need to assure oneself that it will be released when it is released is every bit as great as that in some of us to say, “its late.” These messages and responses do tend to show up together.

They say in Hollywood that the only bad press is no press. So, the folks at SM/CP should appreciate that anyone is talking about P7P at all. ;)  These threads seem to be about it for now.

Now, as to a long awaited and much needed feature that has not yet been released? How about a spell checker for the message entry box in these forums.

LOL... we're supposed to get snow again in 2 days.. so I think I need a raincheck on spring for a few weeks.

Our heaviest snow we've seen here was on an April 13th a few years ago.

I think we need a new convention or a new flag. For off-topic we use OT) in the subject line. Maybe we should also use AT) (annoying topic), so if some one reads a thread and gets irritated, they have only themselves to blame? :)

Definitely not.

Like a lot of men, I seem to go through the cycle of evolution in the mornings:

When I awake, I can barely stand and shamble around with a dim awareness of my surroundings.
By the time I return from the bathroom I can almost walk upright.
By the time I get my breakfast I can communicate in grunts and gestures.

It's all the result of global warming, I tell ya!

BTW - I'm patient, but I hope the the list of delayed softwares which you provided earlier isn't a hint to us that Poser Pro is going to follow a similar development schedule.........😉

Crikey, it takes me half the day to reach that stage!

Great pic pakled, very apt!

1st day of spring...yawn. Now May 1st, that is a day to look forward to!!!!!! Why? Because, Hurray, Hurray, the First of May, outdoor Scr.... (rhymes with how they make beer, with a "ing" on the end. Probably still violate the TOS, if so delete) starts today!

Here is hoping P7P fixes all the issues P7 has . We don't have to wait until May 1st . And we don't get screwed right from the start with a bunch of bugs

Pixologic took their time after making announcements about version 2.5.  So did Luxology with version 201.  ZBrush and modo are great tools because of that.

I started this “AT” as a bit of a joke.  I really have no interest in being a paying beta tester, so I'm ok with a delay if it doesn't kill something basic like dynamic cloth again (even if it was just for a small but annoyed minority)...  Nor am I jumping off the Poser ship.  It is flawed software, but we all keep using it anyway.

It is just hard to suffer in silence when software like Sketchup comes along and completely revolutionizes something as complicated as 3D modeling.  I have to think someone is going to do the same for us.  Even if we have to keep dealing with legacy content limitations, at least we could get a modern and efficient UI.  Again, I’m not trying to start a “poor us” thread (check my posts, I’m not a chronic complainer).  I just wish the marketing people would give it a rest and put that money into UI improvements before someone else does.
