THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Steamboat finished

My steamboat is ready and I´m willing to give it away.

Some parts in it are poseable (rudder, door, flag and paddlewheels). I´ve also tried to group things in a smart way so you can select individual meshes, primitives or whole families. Some textures might be quite slow to render, but you can use other textures if you like. The model is a bit irregular in some places. I want it that way, it feels more natural as it shouldn´t look to much industry-made. But if you want to, feel free to manipulate it.
As Swedish isn´t the general language here I´ve also translated every objectname to english and I hope it´s decent understandable english.

The zipped file is 19 mb large. I don´t know if it is to large to e-mail, but I´ll try to do that to any one who sends me an e-mail-adress. If that doesn´t work out I think need someone that can host the model.

Thats a great little boat. Cant see that ever turning turtle LOL. Im sure if you can get it onto freestuff itll be very popular but 19 mb is probably to large for my ISP. Generous offer, though.

Bobby has offered me some space and I think that is generous and an excellent idea. I accept that offer.

Thanks bobbystahr for the effort you´ve put in doing the model awailable.

The only thing I would like from those who use it, is to let me know if they post any images with the model in it.

Most welcome...actually as I understood it when I became a Mod that the increased File Locker was for stuff just like this....or maybe I just thought to myself that it was a good Idea...any way I've always done it for in forum sharing.  Limits the time I have to leave it there, and as a lot of folks can dl big stuff now a days, I'd recommend uploading it to a free account at ShareCG or somewhere like that....I use sendspace which has a cool easy interface and no waiting stuff like rapidshare and that ilk make you do...just my 2 cents canadian.. ...

Bobby, Stoner,

How do I use all those files?

I've downloaded them from your file locker Bobby, and renamed the .z01 - to .z07 all back to .zip - but what next?  Or shouldn't I have done that?

By the way I'm using PowerArchiver - (I can't use WinZip, hate the thing.)

PowerArchiver doesn't recognise the renamed .zips so I renamed them back again... but I still have no idea what to do with them...

From my point of view it would be so much easier if the whole model was just uploaded to sharecg.com.

Fran oh Fran...
I do think I said just click on the file named with the .zip extension and it will extract all the spanned files as well. "[dl all 7 and click in the .zip file and extract to your favorite directory,]" You will have to revert to the original names of all those files, create a directory named steamboat to extract to then click on th .zip file and tell it to extract to the steamboat folder you've created and it will assemble the sreamboat, no problems, in the steamboat dir. you created.
I agree with the ShareCG idea and intimated as much but maybe stoner is on dial up and can't upload such huge files. If he wishes I could post it up at sendspace which I use, but that makes this a bit more of a public object than maybe Morgan wants. I'll await comment from him on this as I have it all nice in it's own dir and have done a small test render and it looks friggin great.. ...

Tried extracting and joining the files with:
PowerArchiver
WonderWebWareFileSplitterPro
WinZip (hated thing!)
but nothing worked.

Help?

I've noticed that there are 4 members who've dl'd part 7 and 3 who've got part 1,and only 2 who've dl'd them all.  A spanned zip only works when you have all the files so do dl all of them. I would put up an assembled one but this collection [for the benefit of dial up users as well as us DSL subscribers], uses up 76.6 % of my File Locker...sigh...I thought everyone understood spanned .zip files by now but I guess I'm more of a power user in that regard. Sorry for not being more specific in my post...I'll try and cram a .RAR of the full steamboat in...I may just have room...stay tuned.. ...

Bobby,

"Fran oh Fran...
I do think I said just click on the file named with the .zip extension and it will extract all the spanned files as well."
that's the first thing I tried, and when that didn't work I started trying everything else, maybe there was a problem with the download.

I'll try re-downloading... hang on...

I see there's a bigger file there now, I'll try that too.

Ah, just seen your last post above this, that explains why the bigger file didn't work, now downloading the other files again.

Okay, it's still not working.

This is the error message that winzip 11.1 gives me - which I just downloaded today to use on this file, never having had to cope with a split zip before...

Error message:
"Extracting to "C:Documents and SettingsFranMy DocumentsUnzippedSteamboatnewtry_33361"
Use Path: yes   Overlay Files: no
Error in file #1:  bad Zip file offset (Error local header signature not found):  disk #1  offset: 4"

I have no idea what to try from here... and I'm ready to give up now.

At least somebody managed to get it...

That last one worked Bobby!  The email link one, I mean, downloaded, got it into Bryce - it was visible, and it's IN!!!

N-ice!

Thanks for all your efforts, Bobby, phew!

Been at work all day and the same goes for tomorrow... so I don´t have time right now to check this sharecg.com. But for me it´s okey to share my boat for anyone or anywhere (hmmm.. maybe not  situations involving nude vickies). If possible, it´s fun to get some little credit for it, or too see it being used in some renders.

I've got one rendering right now - think you're gonna like it.

There's not much in it, but it illustrates the idea I had quite well...
