Subject: Same old question? 3D file format converter?

I know I've seen this asked here before, but I can't find it in a search. What is a good/the best free program for converting 3D files from one format to another? I have a few DWG files that I'd like to convert to OBJs for Poser, but I can't open them in Lightwave to export, nor do they import into Poser directly. Any suggestions or links?

Well, IMO, nothing beats Deep Exploration, but it's far from free.
As for totally free, I haven't seen any good ones around for a while, maybe there aren't even any. Probably not any you could rely on consistently for complex objects.
However, Accutrans is very good, and it's only 20 bucks, but you can use it free for 30 days.
I use Deep Exploration, but did try Accutrans, and it does a really good job.

For all of AutoDesk's products you can get a fully functioning, but time-limited, trial. Get the current AutoCAD trial (not the viewer) and use that to convert the mesh. With AutoCAD you may need to export it as 3DS using 3DSout command. This may have changed with newer versions.

There's a program out there called Crossroads. It's pretty simple, does a few of the common formats, and it's free.

Also, Blender has a lot of import/export options, as to most modelers (Wings 3d, for example). They're both free as well.

Yes I have had the Crossroads program before too and was now looking for it again.  I want it so that I can convert my Spatch .dxf files to .obj so that I can import them into Wing3d
