Subject: OT - seeking 1TB hd recommendations

It's spring cleaning time again and I need to back up all my data, documents, podcasts, programs, etc.. This time around I want to do it all on to one drive (with secondary backups on other drives) and to do this I need something like a 1tb drive to fit it all on!

So - any suggestions as to whose drives to look at or which to avoid?

BTW for those suggesting retailers...I'm in the UK

I'v been using a couple of IBM/Hitachi 7K1000 Deskstars for a while now. Fast and stable, no problems so far.

I consider Seagate to be the best hard drives out there.

I would think the best hard drive to buy is the one which is going to give you the least MTFB(Mean time between failures),  price and don't forget the warranty, granted the warranty is not going to replace the data you lost but it will replace the hard drive which can get a little pricy especially on the 1TB range. Needless to say all this info can be gotten from the manufacturers site. Good Luck

I have a Western Digital 1TB SATA (WD RE2-GP WD1000FYPS).
Then I have a 1TB MyBook (WDH1U10000N) also. That is a USB hotswap external drive. Not as fast as the internal, but real handy, if you are physically transferring data between comps. not on a network.
Either one is around $US 250.00. The external one might be a little bit more; but not over $US 300.

Seagate has been pretty good to me, I've owned probably 15 Seagate drives over the years and they've all been pretty well behaved.

it's worth saying twice...;) I've used Seagates since I popped 2 30meg HDs into a (then) brand new 286 back in the day...;)

I have two Western Digital 1 Terrabyte each hard drives in my new PC and they are great. They are the new Green (Poser savers) type and they run really cool compared to my old drives. Very cool to the touch. I had a heat problem and they reduced the heat in my case by at least 10 C or more.

I would spread that 1T across 4 drives....less chance for a disaster.
