Hi,

I've built an outhouse in C4D and need to know how to hinge the door. Do I need to set it up as a figure or is there a way to hinge it and still be a prop?

Yes you can set it up as a prop with a working door, but also yes, you should make a figure out of it. Check dr geep's tutorials for complete rigging instructions for something like this.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Thanks

If you use two separate geometries, eg two obj files, or internal geometry with two geomCustom blocks, you can do it as a pp2 (prop). The geometries should be constructed so they load in the right position relative to each other without needing translation. Within the pp2 file the location of the 'origin' (aka center point) determines where the door will hinge.

In Poser, import the two geometry files (don't translate anything). Select the door, from its Properties select 'Display origin'. Select the GROUND, then reselect the door. You should see 3 new dials in the parameters pallet to move the origin. Move the origin so it matches the location of the hinge. Try yRotate to make sure the door hinges properly. Parent the door to the outhouse. Do Memorize All (Alt+Ctrl+A). Save to a props pallet, using 'Select Subset' to include both the outhouse and door.

You can change the dial name for yRot  to "Open", and force limits on the other rotate and translate channels of the door to zero, so you don't accidentally move the door  in undesirable ways. You can also hide the forced channels from the parameters pallet.

Thank you. This has been eluding me for a while now. I was afraid I would have to set it up as a figure, I think it would be easier to find as a prop. LOL

Thanks
