Quote - Huh..what...I thought I heard someone mention my name...
Just letting the whippersnappers know that you were there in the early days of this insanity... Where are you hanging your hat now that PPros has been DAZzed for once and for all? And thank's for mentioning Dark Whisper, Pengy. Since the last retooling of the forums, at least 2/3'rds of my links are fubar...along with the info they held. And it has been a -long- time since Steve went by the DW handle. As for computers.... The first I ever had constant access to was an Apple IIc that Mom won at work; the first I ever got my hot little hands into though was an original Altair 8800 that my mentor in electronics got. And nothing beats an 8 bit data bus, 16 bit address bus, and toggling in your program and data by hand. We won't discuss the debugging part, though.....
Attached Link: First transmapped Poser hair.
"alleriluiauh (masacred spelling, but it was something like that. She made the first great transmap for P4 Long Curly Hair."The correct spelling would be "Allerleirauh" which means "All-Kinds-of-Fur" in old German.
It's a fairytale by the Brothers Grimm.
Found a pic of that hair over at "3-minutes-poser"
(See Link)
Things sure havent changed all that much, huh. :)

Por Nada... and yeah - ever since Bondware dropped their proprietary stuff and went to PHP for their fora, it's a PITA when it comes to dealing with old links. /P
I can remember downloading from BB in Coral Gables Florida, and I live in California. My phone bills were outrageous...lol
My husband used to hate the sound of the modem because he knew my little XT was on and downloading stuff for nursing. My daughter ran a site with 2 modems one computer and all in the county were amazed....guess the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree..heheh. I came in just at Willow was leaving, so I never got the full brunt of it, just knew there were a lot of sad, and ticked off folks. Hard to believe we've been posing for so long. (looks in the mirror) Well....maybe not so hard to believe...lol
Quote - that NYT article is interesting.
Yeah, I thought so. It's interesting to note how much some things have changed in 7 years.......and how much some other things haven't.
Quote - "Posette still looks pretty good IMHO"
Very nice ! But that doesn't seem to be her original rigging ???
Good eye. Nope. Re-rigged by Stahlratte. I am very grateful to him for that figure. Those are V3 poses with no tweaking at all. It is a beautiful character. It shows Posette still can make a pretty picture. Those images are not post-worked.
This was a series I did here at Rsity several years ago, a predecessor of the sagae of Murray's Assistant. The Wanderer was some gentle satire of issues within the Poser community (while Murray made the issues pretty blatant) and strolled on for about 15 episodes, I think, touching on everything from Forum conduct to what happens when runtimes get too bloated. It was a fun little series. The texture on the Wanderer (at left) is my own, one of about 50 I generated for the much maligned P4Guy. I'm not sure who the guy on the right is, but I dont think he came from Animotions.
There was a lot on the version 4 characters that was left undiscovered, which was/is a real shame. True, we've moved on to better things, but I cant help but think there were features buried in those figures that were lost when Poser changed hands for version 5.

Rendo has had a pretty interesting ride over the years - interesting, to say the least. Looking back at the whole situation it's hard to believe this site has survived and thrived as it has. There were alot of us who figured it had killed itself off back in 2000. The old Complaint and Debate (C&D) Forum which went bye-bye around March 2002 was an amazing place. Jeez, there was some serious weirdness going on there for a time. Not in a bad way, either, not really. Of course, back then you could get away with alot more here.
It's also been pretty interesting to have been around for the evolution of Poser, another thing which seemed like it could die at any minute - always somehow fragile, but pervasive. MetaCreations abandoned it, and Curious Labs picked it up, but then destroyed themselves, passing it on to E-frontier, now to some cell phone company. For some reason in spite of its success it seems to continue to be the redheaded bastard stepchild of the CG world.
But it has progressed a great deal in that time. Not as much as it could have, but I think it's always been developed on a budget lower than it deserved.
It's also been pretty interesting to see the evolution of the Poser Power Users along the way. I remember when some of the most successful merchants of today were still more or less n00bs.
In a way it was far more interesting back then. More free and untamed, that is. Rendo has become far more tame and sterile in the years since that last big site war, when the people who owned the place suddenly realized the cash cow it could become and began to have more of an interest in its day-to-day running...
It's still a fun place much of the time, but now it's so much more "corporate" and safe, whereas before it was such a cult thing. After a few months here, I'd felt as if I'd joined some strange religion. ;-)

lol. I want all that on a coffee mug; maybe two!

Yikes. My brother-in-law had one of those, just about drove my sister crazy with it.
Oh, and to the earlier poster, Poser 1 doesnt work under OSX, sadly. Photoshop 1 does, as does Illustrator 88, but not Poser -- nor Bryce 1, for that matter. And none of my Bryce 1 work can be imported into the new version.
