God those laces will look great going up the boot!
I think going with the hide feet option should be fine.

Now where's me kleenex..................

stormchaser ( ) posted Thu, 27 March 2008 at 12:03 AM

Connie, I don't know much about modelling so I'm unsure if this is a major thing or not. Could the heel be morphed to different heights?

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Thu, 27 March 2008 at 12:22 AM

Hmmm... The heel part itself should be no problem... the rest of the boot may look odd at different heel height... mostly the foot -pad angle may end up wrong.

But, I'll give it a try, see what happens. If we get good results, we'll keep'em.

Sorry to be a pain, it was just a thought. Like I said I think the heel height is just right for this type of boot, I guess for different situations I thought it would be good if it could be altered, but if it looks odd it wouldn't be worth it. There again you are covering the options by having the other boot type.

Joe-B-Wan ( ) posted Thu, 27 March 2008 at 12:49 AM

Wow Connie! You have been busy. Everything is looking wonderful!

btw, GND4 would look brilliant walking on the dock in your Mediterranean scene WIP @ DAZ wearing those Daisy shorts and top on the first page of this thread! :tt1:

Quit apologizing... it's jor job on this project to be a pain :P  Keep making requests!!!
Changing Heel height is a great idea, If I can technically pull it off, I'll do it.

Joe :)  Thanks... Yes, little cut off shorts and a tie top with big sunglasses... She's be ready for a mediterranean photoshoot!

Oh boy, that looks good Connie. Yeah, that's sexy!

That slit down the side is what makes it cool & sexy but I also like the slight bend in the heel, really nice touch there Connie.

Nice Connie. Can't wait to see what you have in mind for the "clunkier" version.

oro_snake ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2008 at 1:58 AM · edited Fri, 28 March 2008 at 1:59 AM

I just thought if you could do another version of the heel, something more to this effect:

IMHO, I think the current look though execellent looks to rounded (front heel) that makes it look almost doll-like but adds to the feminine look so works fine for me. The boots are looking great BTW. 😄

vincebagna ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2008 at 2:23 AM

I think the rounded part on the front could be slightly 'broken' with a disp map thereafter applied to the sole part.

Connie, may i ask you how did you do those lovely laces? With a curve path?

oro_snake ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2008 at 6:41 AM

I also want to know about those laces too. And I changed my mind the rounded sole looks gorgeous as is. I guess the idea grew on me, in a good way.

Joe-B-Wan ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2008 at 10:20 AM

oro_snake, thanks for posting that Aeon pic. I couldn't remember what her footwear looked like in the film.

stormchaser ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2008 at 11:41 AM

Great, nice job with the laces Connie, can't wait to see this textured. How hard were the laces to model?
Will the bow at the top have a movement morph,as in if the figure is in a kneeling pose?

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2008 at 11:49 AM

There will be another version of the boots - one with a more sporty and practical look.
I was going for the dolled up look on this one - glad to know it hit the target.

My reasoning it that with two different looking boots, the set wil have versatility - one in a sexy direction, another in the direction of sporty or superhero look.

For the laces, I did a zigzag polyline through the holes (simple straight lines), then did a vertical extrusion, then added thickness. This is with a lot of hand refinement and tweaking till it looked the way I wanted it.

Instead of the curve path, I like to start with straight lines, then strategically add slices where I want them after adding a level of smoothing. Curved path gave me too many facets, and didn't behave any better. When I add breaks only where I need them, it keeps the polygon count a tad lower.

I already deleted the curve I started with... otherwise I'd show you a screenshot :(

okay, I decided to recreate the line. First pic shows you the whole line. Everything you see white is a single polyline, laced thhrough as if it was a stick figured shoelace.

second pic shows you lacing detail. Notice how I used extra line segment to get it through the lace-hole, instead of just a single point. Helps a bit later on. The main goal is to het all the line segments in there. If they're not super precise, don't worry about it for now, you'll have plenty of chance to refine them later. Just get the line in there.

now, select the whole line, hold down the shift key (extrude shortcut), and extrude the line upwards.

Do you have to individually manipulate each lace throught the holes or is there a quicker way by setting parameters?
I have no idea here so this may be a stupid question.

Conniekat8 ( ) posted Fri, 28 March 2008 at 1:32 PM · edited Fri, 28 March 2008 at 1:37 PM

I don't know of a quicker way. You do it little by little.   Yes, there's a fair amount of hand work involved in making theese things.
And, to answer the other question, yes, the modeling is done in Hex.

Hopefully I'll line up something new soon.  The good news is that this outfit will be done a lot sooner, I'll be having some time on my hands next week or two.

This is for the sportier, more sci fi, perhaps sharper type look - "More sleekness -less cuteage" type.

Thanks guys and gals!  Yea, I'll get another job - I was looking through ads yesterday and it's not as bad out there as it was at the company where I was. Almost 100% of their work came from home bulders, so they got hit very hard. I needed a break!
I may reopen my little business, at least I'll try. Then I can work from the house, and since the rates are higher, I don't have to work as much!  Oh, and the good news is they want to keep me as a consultant, for when they get a project that needs my services. They said maybe in May.

Back to modeling.. Cobaltdream, are you asking me about modeling requests or Alizea about conversion requests?  It's somethinng between requests and whatever happens to inspire me when I'm ready for the next project. I don't always know what'll happen.

Stormy... where's stormy hiding?  I need some votes on the sketch of the second boots?

um, if it's not untoward, you about new clothes requests?  i have one or maybe two requests, now that i've been focusing on rendering for a bit (i'm at 5 new renders that need postwork and counting).  but they'd be for either any figure/morph (request a) or most female figures (request b).

glad to hear things will work out in any case.  i kind of figured that based on what you've said of your work and how talked about it.  sounds like it will end up being beneficial in the long run anyway, so that's absolutely great.

Watch out, there's a Storm brewing & it's coming this way!

I've actually been away from Poser & Vue for a couple of days, it's been a long time since that's happened! Although, I've had withdrawal symptoms so I had to come back. They were calling me. You know, those voices you hear in your head.
Or is that just me?

Vince - I couldn't find any boots in my size, being a size 12, finding boots like those are hard to come by!
Anyhow, Frank says I can borrow his.

Connie - So, so sorry Connie about your job. Life's a bitch sometimes. Chin up girl, we still love you here!  😄

Sorry, had to put this picture up again in case anyone missed it!
🤤  🤤  🤤  🤤  🤤  🤤  🤤  🤤  🤤

Damn, I want this outfit now. Just think of the cool renders to be made!!

Connie, YES YES, I really like the second boots!  What a great creative idea to put that hole in the heel. Totally rocks!!
The block heel I think is in keeping with the originals but with your great touch.  If you do make them with the laces going through the hole that would be so cool! :thumbupboth:
I like these because she could do her action stuff in them & yet still look sexy, what a combination!

Anticipating the next installment!

vincebagna ( ) posted Sun, 30 March 2008 at 5:36 AM

Oh no, it's not just you for the voices in the head :)
The size 12 doesn't tell me anything as here the sizes are not labelled the same, anyway it seems Manchester guys are big feeted :scared:

The lace going through the hole, what a great idea! Like that she has not to fear about her boot throwing away when executing an extremely complicating rolling jump, all is securely attached! ^^

I agree. I think you put a finger on what I was not happy about.
The front tip is nice and angular and sporty, the back is curvy, they sort of don't go together well. I think I need to fine dome sort of a stylish angularity to the heel.

I'm glad you guys are liking it so far :)
