I hope all the No voters realise that this would mean the end to any wips and requests for advice being posted!
You can't possibly have wips without giving away your identity.
As far as I've understood it, the monthly challenge was also about learning and coming together as a community. What you will be left with is an out and out competition!
I don't believe this has been discussed or thought through enough!
Just my 2 pence!

AlfRaMusic ( ) posted Tue, 01 April 2008 at 1:33 PM

I'll post my WIPs, after the challenges. :-)
Btw. I have more time to make them understandable.
...at least, maybe the 3 winners should post the procedure of their scenes.

If the No-names votes win then this is a major change from what i've grown to love about this forumn, guess i'm not needed here any more, because it sure seems my ideas are old fashioned. - it has obviously become more of a one-upmanship contest, than a group hug situation. do we really need to be able to say " i'm better than you" so much. If only AS was here.

well 'pon re-thinking this I think maybe on a Challenge by Challenge basis this could be a part of individal challenge specifications. If it's a discovery type of challenge with new techniques etc. being explored as the basis, well a WIP is a fairly necessary thing as it stimulates discussion on how to do whatever, but I do find when voting I do like to be surprised at who won and who I voted for later...maybe that's just weird ole me.. ...

Mods & Coords wouldn't be able to vote due to their ability to view the names of all participants.
It would only take one person to call  "foul".

Participating with an Entry would not work either, since you could not vote along with the peers of the challenge.

(thought I made mention of this in the previous thread?)

Yes ... yes you did... I can't understand why a mod/ coorinator would vote no unless they did not wish to participate. so Yes i would not vote no  Infact I vote not only Yes but (explicative deleted)Yes ! ! !  I amoungst others made the arguement that Agent Smith be aloud to participate back when he was a mod : the challenges he participated in were not only more fun because of it but were educational as well - not only that but the WIP comments made the participants feel more at home and were at least sometimes educational as well.

YES, Yes and yes ! ! ! ! !

Incase anyone missed it - I vote Yes !!

I can't speak for anyone else but if ICM or Bobby wishes to participate and/or vote in the challenges, even though they know the entrants name, I have absolutely no problem with that.

RodsArt ( ) posted Tue, 01 April 2008 at 8:54 PM · edited Tue, 01 April 2008 at 8:57 PM

Thanks Dan, I appreciate your expression of trust, though I'm sure there will always be one that insists on pure anonymity for entrants, and I wouldn't want to ruin it for everyone else.
Let the Chips fall where they may.

Thanks Again.

Lets just stick to votes. Thanks

Thanx for the vote of confidence but I feel that if a Challenge is anon. we should recuse ourselves from voting to be fair, tho I actually try to not notice who did what at voting time by loading all up in tabs and do a delete as I go till I have but 3 left, and I then bounce around the tabs  till I establish an order...LOL...a bit anal but I prefer to not know...let the art speak for itself, not it's maker.. ...

dhama ( ) posted Wed, 02 April 2008 at 1:47 AM

I don't know how many times I have to say it, but it's nothing to do with 'I'm better than you, it would merely be a more useful gauge of ones own progress. Something which is impossible with Bias voting.

RodsArt ( ) posted Wed, 02 April 2008 at 1:53 AM

Personally I cannot fathom why the question has even been asked.I thought the idea of these challenges was that they were 'FUN'.How can they continue in such a vein IF we start treating them so seriously...it's not as if there is even a prize as such involved.

So yes lets keep the names and keep the spirit of friendship...

airflamesred ( ) posted Wed, 02 April 2008 at 4:55 AM

No    (for an experimental period)

Staticon ( ) posted Wed, 02 April 2008 at 11:32 AM

I have participated in a number of challenges, on different sites, for graphics, game levels, etc. Some kept the authors anonymous while others displayed the culprits openly.

Both ways were extremely good fun but I can see the points of both sides.

Personally, I prefer the anonymous approach as it is also fun to try guessing the artist from their style.

Perhaps, as a compromise, the artists names could be listed, but not in association with the pictures, and a side contest could be run for non-contributors to guess who did what?

Just a thought.

I'll vote No

Has anyone here even read Robert's Rules of order ? Why are we voting on an issue without first discussing it's merrits and setting a time far enough away for a vote if a quarum is achieved that everyone has a chance to digest the implications and ramifications of such a  thing?

I call foul! (let's vote on that too !!)

I'm sorry ICM, but this let's vote now on an issue no one has had a chance to really think about nonsense precludes my just sticking to voting - It has all the implications of a Blitzkreig with none of the "socially redeeming moral values".

I will be posting a new thread about this later today after work.

I only just got back and found this thread.

Would have voted to keep the names and keep the wips and the lighter aspect of the participation.  But it's too late now.

I can however see the points made for anonymity - I just wouldn't want to do that.
