Subject: So what is the difference between artzone and Daz?

Marketplace that is? I mean I see the same thing in the Artzone marketplace as I do at daz.

I haven't checked out the Artzone MP, but from what I heard the quality doesn't have to be as high as what you'll need to be a broker at Daz.
I'm probably wrong on this though.

I THINK that the difference is that DAZ's site store woill only support DAZ related products, while the Art Zone store will support ANY figure such as the G2 male and females etc.

SeanMartin ( ) posted Tue, 15 April 2008 at 6:52 PM

Right now, the MP at AZ is mostly items from the old PoserPros store. The quality is just as good (I was one of the PP testers), but as noted it supports a wider range of character meshes... for now, anyway. I'm sure that because of the split between Smith Micro and DAZ, we'll see most of the G2 stuff quietly taken away, and before long it too will be a DAZ-only MP. But for now, they need the traffic.

Sean,

I thought that the whole purpose of opening the ArtZone store was to allow DAZ'centric merchants an outlet to sell none DAZ figured items, while keeping the DAZ store strictly for DAZ and DAZ support items. I'm not sure why they felt the need to close PP and move the store to AZ but I'm sure they had their reasons. As to quality, PP's quality was like most stores, ranging from adiquate to exemplary. The PP WAS however, often viewed (rightly or wrongly, who's to say) as selling primarily "bargain basement" items. I don;t say this as a slur or to start a flamewar, just as a fact gleaned from reading the forums here and else where.

DAZ had made it pretty clear some months ago that they planned on closing PP because they had ArtZone and felt that three forum-style sites was one too many. AZ wasnt moving like they hoped it would -- mostly, IMHO, because of the lousy planning at its launch, in which it was pretty obvious that the site software was based on something like MySpace and gave AZ the immediate reputation of being a hook-up site -- so they closed down PP and pretty forced the move.

PP was no more "bargain basement" than any other site. It had some great stuff as well as some pretty marginal stuff, but Guarie did a great job of pre-weeding the applicants before we testers got them. Things like flood fills, for example, were denied almost immediately. But PP had its own rep problems, ones that it was never quite allowed to get past... even though, just from sheer numbers alone, it was the second most trafficked site after this place.

Sean, Going off topic for the last time... As I said it was a perception gleaned from reading forums and not meant as either a 'FACT' or even a personal opinion. I spent enough money in PP's store over the years, both befoer and after DAZ, and never had a complaint on either the technical aspects of the product, nor it's quality. I THINK the perception came from the feeling that DAZ skimmed the "best" off for it;s parent site, and left whatever "wasn;t good enough" for PP. Again this is almost certainly not the case but it is a perception that's out there.

On another hand I really miss the PP forums, in many aspects they were more informative and a better technical resource that here, DAZ or any other poser related site. For some reason PP seemed to attract a lot of poser "tech heads" to it;s forums and a LOT of information was  found there. I will miss that aspect more than anyathing else.

If I have said anything that you might feel as offensive, please forgive me it;s not my intention. Now I think I'll stop dragging this thread further away from the basic question whic wasn;t about PP but about DAZ and AZ.

Thank you. I've been wondering the same thing myself.  Personally I haven't noticed anything there that isn't at Daz. It seems like a clone site actually.

There's a lot of content in the AZ market that's new and exclusive to AZ, and most of it's dynamite stuff.  The new Dragon World dragons are exclusives, as are a lot of add-on content for stuff that's sold at DAZ.

It doesn't bother me, I have no problem going over and checking out AZ and seeing stuff that DAZ isn't putting in the main store.  I simply don't understand the conspiracy theory attitudes that DAZ is doing something devious to the 3D community in having the AZ market work that way.

That wasn't directed at anything said in this thread, but, over at the DAZ forums you would think the Anti-Christ has just appeared on earth according to some of the comments made.

There are about 240 items exclusive to ArtZone that aren't in the DAZ Store.

Actually the QA on AZ items is just as tough on AZ products as it is on Daz's, possibl ymore so, to proove that there's no quality drop issues.

The only REAL difference, is that AZ products can support characters and content not made by daz (like Jessie, Sydney, ect.) while daz's "home" store only caters to it's own stable of figures and products.

I suspect that over time, more people will end up browsing the AZ store then the Daz store, since the AZ store carries everything, while the Daz store will be more limited.

Many people are already seeing that, and browsing the AZ store more then the Daz store already.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

No offence whatsoever taken, trust me. :-)

Well, all I can say to that is "Give it time". :-) Either one of two things will happen -- (1) DAZ will see the AZ marketplace in the same way it used the PP one: as a means of supporting things without really supporting them, or (2) DAZ will continue to support the outside characters until people get used to the idea of going to AZ, then they'll start to quietly pull anything non-DAZ.

The AZM marketplace is now actually the main store and DAZ is a subset of that.

As for testing and quality - the AZM QA is far tougher than that at PP and there are several merchants that have personally told me that they "had to fix" or "are fixing" products before release at AZM.

Heck, even at 3DA we had a number of fixes required for PP products before release as well.

Also just because an item is for a DAZ figure does not mean it will be in the DAZ store versus AZM nor is everything being released at AZM old stuff since everything released at DAZ is released at AZM but not the other way around.
