Subject: Grouping for Hair

I recently modeled some hair for DAZ's David. I plan to make it as a conforming hair. I just wonder if I should put the lower pony tail part as part of neck, chest and abdomen?

And do you guys have any other critiques and tips to make this hair more convincing and realistic?

Thanks in advance.

No. You shouldn't give it the same name as the neck unless you want it to always follow the neck's position. Better to name it tail 1 or something. That would allow posing separate from the neck.

There's a distinction between what groups you choose to put into the mesh, and what actors (aka bones) are included in the rig. Conforming hair can usually be grouped all to neck, which has the advantage that morphs are very simple to make. As Teyon says, you wouldn't want to include just a standard hip-abdomen-chest-neck-head bone structure though. A separate tail bone would be a good idea; maybe more than one, depending on how flexible you want the tail to be. Is this going to be transmapped hair? The realism will depend greatly on the textures and transmap you can make for it, which in turn will benefit from careful UV mapping.
