I currently have poser 6 and am thinking about upgrading to poser 7.  what are the pros and cons of upgrading?

HAMLET

To be, or not to be: that is the question:*
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.--Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd.'

Truly weighty question!

um , well, yes, Hamlet .... what can one say to that ...  cept ... :huh:

I went from Poser 5 to Poser 7 and I really see little difference.   There might be nice extra features but I am not using them really, I have enough troubles with lighting to throw in AO or subsurface scattering or any of that .

Look carefully at what new features it has that you would actually USE .

If you're doing a lot of animation, stick to 6.  The keyframe graph was
"recoded" in 7, which didn't add any new features but added enough
new bugs to make it much harder to use.

If you're more interested in working with textures, 7 is probably worth
the money.  Lots of improvements in that area.

I'm with you on this!  Before I invest in "NEW" anything, I want to be sure its new and not bells and whistles that bloat and hose up the software--bells and whistles that I can do my self with my "old"  Judy type Poser.  Jan

I skipped 5, went to 6, then upgraded to 7 after most of the bugs were worked out.

Love it.

I do do a lot of animation but to be honest it is in the four legged variety.  Poser 6 is rather lacking in the walk designer area when it comes to animating four legged creatures rather than two.  I was wondering if poser 7 made any leaps forward in that area.

Bugs ... get the spray out!

In all serious Poser 7 IMHO is worth it. There are several new features I have found that I use a lot and more stable than 6 (sometimes).

If you're doing animation, use the control buttons on the animation palatte, not the ones on the keyframe line at the bottom of the screen.

I haven't used the Walk Designer that much in P7.
As far as I can tell, there's no real change from P6. Animation layers (which I haven't used yet) may be useful, but I just don't know.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
