Not me... I'm not a pro, heck, not even a hobbist! Just your basic crazed person with a compulsion for 3D renderings.

deadwarrior ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2008 at 6:38 PM

Rats Bryster! I was going to make a reference to "The Prisoner". :(

Just for that, I' m going to dig through my renders and take the plunge.

Well dhama, it looks like it's just the two of us.

Unless Le Bryster wants to give it a try. Come on Chris, you've got the chops. Same goes for the rest of you. (And that includes you pakled). :D

As to the rest of you. Damnit! Shame on you!  Stop discounting your skills and abilities. This is not a Poser Forum and we don't do Naked Vickies in the Temple with a Sword!  (Bet that gets me in deep kaka with someone. :) ) We have a helluva lot more imagination than that!

Besides what have we got to lose? We bitch about render time and problems with DAZ and all sorts of other stuff. Lets do something dangerous and different. Something unpredictable.   Lets post our art to Renderosity and see what happens!

Hey, I use to train people to manage mass casualty incidents, high hazard chemical releases and oil tanker accidents. That's the real world. If you screwup, there are real consequences. Posting our art has no consequences. Zippo. Nada. None.

You see it doesn't matter if it doesn't make the cut because there's no penalty. If they don't like it or can't use it so what!

So stop knocking your skills! Everyone of you is an artist. Someone once told me that the only difference between a professional and and amateur is that the pro gets paid. It has nothing whatsoever to do with skill.

Remember the first time you posted to any gallery here? I was terrified that no one would like my work. Then I found out that everybody felt that way first time out. Take a look at my first post in my gallery. I look at occasionally and see how far I've come. And how far I have to go. I fussed over that thing for hours before I posted.

So now it's the same with this gig. New challenge, same nerves. Same wondering "will they like it?".

I say go for it.

Besides, most of the artists using other software are bitchin' and moaning how bad and unprofessional they are, and they won't bother to post. So I figure that gives us a clear field. (You don't really think Rendo is really going to use a nekkid Vicky, do you?) ;)

Besides, I make stuff I want to see. And if I like, well then, that's all that matters. So screw 'em if they don't like it.

As for me, I'm gonna take up the gauntlet and create something and post it to Rendo.

Silence.

Pause.

Takes deeeeeeeep breath.

OK, my rant is over. You may return to your seats.

That's all I gotta say on the matter,

At least for now.

Let the comments begin.

My major obstacle would be re-rendering at 300ppi.  I'm going to have to re-read that other thread on the 300ppi to see if I understand this whole "render to file" stuff.

Otherwise, would I have to recalculate the size via the "layout setup" options?  I did that once for an 11x17 image once.  My computer took about a week to render it, and the file is over a gig in size. :c(  I can't afford that much space at this time for any image.

ThunderStone ( ) posted Tue, 29 April 2008 at 10:54 PM

If you have photoshop or any other image manipulating software, going 300 dpi is easier with no re-rendering. Just take a tip. Take your original render bitmap or photoshop (psd) and increase the dpi without doing anything else.I think someone explained it here once. That would save your hair and your sanity.

As for me... Going ahead and doing the submitting, is out of the question... I have just begun! Someone is going to have to help me pick out the the good stuff.

I may not have made myself clear on this.  My bad.  What I mean by my previous post is that for me to re-render images at 300 dpi and still maintain the size aspects is a much more arduous process since you can't "resample bigger".  If I moved the image into photoshop and went from 72dpi to 300, the image would shrink by about 350%.  To maintain the aspect ratios, I'd have to do one of two things that I know of:

  1. Re-render the image at the new proportions
  2. Resize to 300dpi, print and then rescan at a higher dpi for the size I want.  It's iffy but that might work.

Maybe I should email them and get the details before I get too crazy about this.  I don't even know if I have stuff they want anyway.

Ninety Nine percent of my stuff is Fan Art which contains copyrighted characters so that pretty much leaves me out.

No not for Renderosity tho. It is too good for crass commercialization. It looks like it could be an illustration for a children's book or a greeting card. It's too beautiful!!!
