"if it wasn't called Poser Pro, could it be called Poser 8"
Poser Pro Basic and Poser Pro remain largely unchanged from Poser 7. There is the same User Interface, the same render engines, the same directory, and so forth.
New, there are choices under Gradient Bump that allow one to use Normal Maps. There is a choice in the FireFly Render Settings screen to us Gamma Correction. One can render in the background, or render to a que, and keep working on a scene.
There are male and female low and medium res figures to use in learning modeling and normal maps.
Poser Pro does not render one bit faster on my 32-bit XP computer, but working in the posing window is faster and smoother. Memory management seems better, and I can render larger scences. I can also render with multiple threads again, which I could not do in Poser 7. The only crash I have had was related to openGL previewing. I will buy a 64-bit computer when my tax refund arrives.
I don't do animations, so the render que does nothing for me. I don't export or import Collada, or use high end aplications so the hosting is not useful to me.
SM is billing this as a side-grade for people who use professional programs with some improvements in Poser that anyone else could use. That feels about right.
In all, without the crashes and memory errors, it is fun to work in Poser again. I would much rather be playing with Poser Pro, than complaining about it.

On a 64bit system with a 64 bit OS I feel Pro runs a hell of a lot better. My renders look fantastic (less texture compression to get it to render) and it runs faster. I can do larger scenes as well. Seems to be a lot less buggy and the interface runs faster. Haven't tried the talk thing but it looks customizable since it runs on xml files.
I use poser professional to create subscription stories and this was worth it to me. I have my own batch render python script so I don't use the queue but its a nice addition for someone with no batch rendering ability. Plus Pro seems to play nicer with shared libraries across multiple machines.
I wouldn't call it poser 8, more like poser 7 sr1.

Simple question, is Poser Pro basic like an upgrade from Poser 7....meaning if it wasn't called Poser Pro, could it be called Poser 8?
