Subject: RENDERWARS:

mertext ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2008 at 11:28 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 3:24 PM

I feel I am going to attempt to spark the interest in this up. Those interested in participating go ahead and post here, trying to flesh out the basic design of what to do in this forum (or if Renderosity is kind enough to give it its own forum if we can get enough people interested.)

The purpose of this post is to gather general interest and help put together what basic ground rules we should have.

POSTS:

All posts for now should be labeled “RENDERWARS:..” so we can start. we can just keep it going in one thread.

ARMY MAKE UP:

An Army consists of what ever you want. Robotic Alien Insect Invaders, Modern Military, Mutant Bunnies. what ever you want. It can be conceptual (modern military, anime) or specific (INSECTOIDS).

The army MUST be able to be represented by use of FREEBIES, or via Commonly used figures. Base Figures that are acceptable include : Aiko/Aiko4,Appolo Maximus (FREE), Michael/Michael 3, Miki/Miki 2, Stephanie/Stephanie 3, Terai Yuki, Victoria (any). As well as Any base figure that comes in Poser 5,6,7 (c’mon do we really want to use P4Dork??). The clincher is if any purchased base figure is used, the Identifying marks of the figure MUST be a freely available morph/ texture (if it something that identifies your figure, such as if you made an individual personae that had identifying tattoos and outfit. The outfit and skin texture should be a freebie). This prevents people from having to make a purchase to participate.

Basically anyone with Poser and some basic figures should be able to jump in with their army and attack your army without having to make a significant purchase (i.e creating a specific new Mutant Bunny character as your army of swarming mutant bunnies and making it ONLY available via purchase is not allowed). But we also understand some people will go to great lengths at developing new figures/ outfits/textures/morphs to participate and make their army unique. So it is applicable to create your own items, and offer them as sales items in the store, as long as it does not FORCE a participant to make a purchase in order to attack your army. An example would be making you mutant bunny army of minions freely available, but perhaps adding new textures for a small fee, or a Mutant Bunny Leader figure for sale. Since the additional textures or Mutant Bunny Leader are NOT required to attack your Army, those items as sale items are applicable.

Please feel free to add to this idea, as it is still being thought out, those interested in participating, chime in give your ideas, and remember the idea is to just have fun.

So....it's like an RPG card game, only with Renders?  Just curious....yes, I am interested :)  (Also, we have a challenge forum here, if you're interested in moving this there)

mertext ( ) posted Mon, 05 May 2008 at 11:57 AM

Black..yeah thats along the lines ...an undead army concept (second image) would fit all the criteria as skeletons/ zombies etc wouldn;t cost anyone much and the equipment is easily available.

I conteplated the challange forum, right now I am just trying to get some others input. Its similar to a Trading Card game or a RPG, except there no dice rolls, basically whatever you create in your image is what happens,  also theres no end as you can never really defeat the opponents.

I am looking at getting some basic rules or ideas to create a basis.

example my army will consist of:
Robotc Alien Insects , the first model i'm working on is a robotic soilder ant, it will be a freebie when its done.
as for what your army can and cannot do, well theres no rules except you cannot actually 100% defeat your opponent, so no nukes destroying the whole earth and in essance destroying all living beings ending the renderwar. Also this isnt 2 - sided , its muti-sided , I have been hashing the idea of selecting a few main Teams, and having players add their army to the Teams. This would give new comers a side to join. Or just have everyone on their own side and let them form alliances or whatever

Sparkys image is pretty similar to what you would be looking for.

Blacks skeleton Army image followed by an Ogre smaking a skeleton head around...black, or anyone who supported his side. would respond with an image retaliating against the Ogre....I think everyone gets the jist.(sp?)

Anyway i have to shoot off to work check in later

Thanks - I thought that was you meant by this concept.

So say someone else would come along and might (for example) have Posette pulling the ogres ears, and then someone else would post dropping an anvil on possettes head, and then ...etc etc?

BTW - the ogre model is called UG! and is free from 3duniverse.

yeah basically, OR Black could bring his skeletons out and hack the ogre to pieces, followed by my INSECToid army swarming the skeletons and taking their bones back to their secret lair....

In essance we need a way to have individuals state the army Concept, base figures, and if we want to choose a side

Concept: Robotic Insects (location of origin unknown)
Base Figues: INSECToids by myself..will be released soon.
SIDE: my own
Allied with: hmmmm lets see who else joins but if Acadia does make a mutant Bunny Army..I will have to kill them :tt2:

Mertext - This sounds like traveled territory. A few years back we did something quite the same.

Remembered names , Dark_thoughts,The immortal one, Sacredrose, wizzard these are just a few I can remember now. Remember the pin heads. We had a blast back then and had a forum exclusive for renderwars, problem is some people took it to the limits. If memory is right we crossed over to other artsites. Not mentioning any names but one website came back we fault unfairly.

I have brought this Idea up to Admin a few times. I enjoyed the Renderwars but people took it to far
and would like to see what set of rules you come up with mertex so I can pass this on too the admin here. Like I said it was fun before and as long as we can spark some guide lines we just might get something going.  Let me know.

yeah sarge, same thing basically , just want to set some rules. thats the purpose of this thread, to help hash out the rules.

So Far we have the following:

  1. Main forces must be comprised of a concept. This will allow players to utilize many figures at their disposal to represent opposing Armys in their renders. If you are creating specific figures for use , there must be ample freebies available so that others can attack our army without forcing a purchase.
  2. All participates will need to declare their army in the forums.( if we get our own forum we would create a stickied Thread for just that.) Threads needed would include:
         a ) Rules (stickied)
         b) Army Declaration (stickied)
         c) Renderwars: this is where the fun happens
  3. nothing that violates the ToS here at Renderosity.
  4. I feel 1 post per 24 hour period per "player" is appropiate.
  5. Posts are attacks against your avatars. NOT personal attacks against the member
  6. keep it fun

I am seeking input into whether we want preset teams , and the users can join a team, or to just keep it open to anyone creating a team and jumping into the fray.

If preset teams are selected, what would they be?

what type of restrictions do we need to keep it clean/ fun

hehe NP Sarge..actually that was why I started this thread, was to get community input/ moderators looking. and a feel of what we could/can/cannot develop.

Also to note, I was intot he old renderwars..remember ACME ARMS...i think the renderwars is what inspired me to make all the guns I made early on here. You would want to respond to an image and have to get something rendered up and think oh only if I had a.....and then scour the net looking for a model, or whipping up your modeling app and getting to making just what you needed.

We used to sit in the chat rooms and people would pop in and ask.."anyone know where i can get a bucket? need it for my renderwar image" and the rest of us in there would all look at our screens in ponderment thinking, why does TIO need a bucket?

Only to say...
Keep the rules to the bare minimum.
Be flexible  say like if someone doesn't have a particular freebie that's been used previously.
Above all make it FUN!

Rules so far:

  1. Main forces must be comprised of a concept. This will allow players to utilize many figures at their disposal to represent opposing Armys in their renders. ***Any participant should be able to create an opposing army concept without having to make a major purchase (freebies prefered)
***2) All participates will need to declare their army in the forums.( if we get our own forum we would create a stickied Thread for just that.) Threads needed would include:
         a ) Rules (stickied)
         b) Army Declaration (stickied)

  4. Posts are attacks against your avatars. NOT personal attacks against the member
  5. keep it fun

i made a wording change to the first rule. The idea here is to prevent anyone from having to BUY to participate. The moment we force somone to have to make a purchase to play, we take out the fun factor and make it a marketing avenue. I myself am a merchant, and am willing to prevent this. For merchants remeber tghis is also a FUN way to put your work out there as samples. In fact, the old Renderwars is how I got started, no I am not a top seller, but it all started years ago when I had a faction called "ACME ARMS". basically I would make props for each team at there request, eventually somone came along and said, "hey, you know you should consider being a merchant" . That was Sargebear.
