I have spent many many times and literally hours trying to download sergemack's 1900 Little Dinner Dress. Using Win98 and netscape4, I would get to various stages of downloading when my spawning viewer kicks in with message that Network error occured while netscape was receiving data. Network error:connection reset by peer. Try connecting again. I have a 56 modem. It's a very large file and I have tried different times of day. Can someone please tell me how I can get this lovely dress. I even tried Poser fashion site with no success. I have a lot of patience which is now wearing very thin because of this frustrating problem.

Hello - the file is 980 kbyte big - what is your mail-address - and does it carry so much ??? and please be a little bit more specific at your post-titles - it was a pure coincident that I read this ... :o)

Personaly, I have not had that problem with downloading most things. However some servers are rather slow or clogged by the page/file requests. For Sergemarck's clothes I tend to go direct to his pages and get them from there. The thing is this, when downloading from here, you are not really getting the file from here, rather you are being redirected to the file. There is a main problem, if you are not getting the full bandwith from your modem (often the case with analog modems) your browser is actually attempting to still load all the content from this site. and all the sites/servers you are redirected thru. Which spreads your bandwith mightly thin for a "Normal" modem, thus the sites are ab;e to push all the content, which causes the sending site to reset (to force and better reconnect). Ok, that real nice but what can you do about it? Well your options are this. Go to the site the file you want is and download it there. OR, once you get the reset error. restart the download, normally, the parts of the file you have are still in your beowser's cashe and once restarting the download you brower will use the crc of the zip and basically tell the server where to restart the file.

Thanks to all who tried to help. Your kindness overwhelms me. I finally got sergemack's 1900 little dinner dress after 7 tries after reading your messages. That makes 12 tries today. Who says perseverance doesn't pay. Thanks again for trying.

Seems to me there is a setting somewhere in Windows's dial-up adapter that says "Disconnect after 20 minutes of no activity" or something like that, and if it is on it will consider a download as "no activity" and pull the plug on you. And it is on by default (curse you, Bill Gates!). Incidently, you should get around 200K a minute on a 56K modem if everything is running full steam.
