Subject: Help with Hiro Toon/Micah for Hiro...

cabraxusb ( ) posted Wed, 07 May 2008 at 7:13 AM · edited Sun, 17 November 2024 at 2:51 AM

Hiya all!

I was thinking about buying Micah from RuntimeDNA, since I need a puma-type character & he sort-of fits the bill.

The only thing is, though, I was kind of hoping for a... i don't know... "less toony" appearance?

Is there a way to morph the char in order to make him seem more "realistic"?  If not, can someone recommend a suitable alternative?

Thanks a million in advance!

In my runtime I have a mountain lion/puma texture that was a freebie for Vittorio/V4, there is even a tail, tex for the creature legs, the works.  Used with the V4 creature morphs that might get you the look you are going for if combined with a fur bump/disp?

I seem to remember finding it in the DAZ forum Freepository, but please don't hold me to that.

If you can't find it let me know and I'll see if I can't dig some info up by opening up Studio, loading up the stuff and digging backwards from the texture folder, as I have backed up (and therefore dropped off the 'puter) my downloads/freebies a few times since and have NO clue what DVD it might be on. sheepish grin

That is, of course, unless someone drops into the thread that happens to keep their head a little more organized and offers up a more direct path for you. lol

Hey, it's a possible start, right? :)

I will check to see, you might also want to hit the forum at RDNA and ask there.

Actually most of the  tooniness is coming from the oversizing of the head. Scale it down and it looks less so.  Plus  MergeVisible over at  DAZ has a nice set of  feline  textures for the Mil people there.

Thanks for all of the help, everyone.

Marque - I posted a reply over a RDNA - thanks for starting the post.

Noshoba - Thanks for the tip on scaling the head; I'll have to give it a try.  As far as the feline textures over at DAZ, I already have them, thx.

And finally, Orchid_Noir, thanks alot for the tip.  I confess that I haven't had a chance to check DAZ for the tex yet, but if I can't track it down I will certainly take you up on your offer.

Haven't taken the plunge yet with Micah, but if I do I'll post here and let everyone know how it turns out. :)

With the Furries for Micah, you've really got endless possibilities for anthro characters.  Doesn't have to just be "toony".

Hopefully my pic attaches.

There was also a set of morphs here for feline , wolf , cat  for M3, V3 and A3 as well I found that aren't bad but for the darn digipaw feet.

Proper Digi-grade feet are in the works for Micah and Melody.  So, eventually, you shouldn't have any worries there.

I updated the thread at RDNA with a side by side head compare that is on this topic to show that Micah can have some of his toony looks reduced with certain morphs.  He is not going to be fully realistic but it all depends on what you are willing to put up with.

Oooh!  When might we see a preview?  Funny thing is, there are so many variations in digitigrade stance as depicted in anthro' art, everything from a subtle "high heel" pose with the arch really no longer than a human foot to proportions that resemble the infamous "SS" symbol.  Poser joint parameters will limit the amount of variation the legs can have.

chuckle  You're right, Bill.  I'm using images such as http://Goldenwolf.deviantart.com/art/The-Oath-5545934 as inspiration.  I'm only going to be replacing Micah/Melody's lower leg.  The thighs aren't going to be touched.

I just started experimenting with the mesh last week.  So nothing presentable yet.  Also, I have to find a way to migrate the current textures from Micah's leg UVs to the Digi-grade legs so that those investments are not lost on the new mesh.

JOELGLAINE ( ) posted Sat, 17 May 2008 at 11:42 AM

Anika (in the RM) uses the replacement lower legs on a V3 torso.

One thing I DO NOT like about that is that full body clothes that depend on shins being a certain length or joint parameter do not fit any more!  That is a concern about use and even sale of the figure.  The more compatible the figure is, the more value it has. Having to fiddle with scales, and magnets gets to be a royal pain.

Having the same UVs would be good.  Having shins that allow the use of pants, with it's JPs popping it off the figure would be good, too!

If  you are using Goldenwolf for an inspiration  then  you have made a wise choice.  She is  pretty much who alot of  anthro artist  emulate.

redspark ( ) posted Sat, 17 May 2008 at 7:57 PM

I'm glad she was a good choice.  I'm not that familiar with the anthro artist community.  But her work is just amazing.  Her wolves are very life-like and I had to purchase a couple of her prints as soon as I saw them. ;)

I also have a book called "Freaks!" written by Steve Miller which I'm trying to use to learn proper anatomy.  I hope that was a good choice too because it was the only Anthro type drawing book I could find. ;)

I will do my best to try to keep things as compatible as possible with A3/H3's current clothing.  Of course, shoes are going to be out of the question but pants I will do what I can to keep working.

Thanks for the input. :)

Noshoba ( ) posted Sat, 17 May 2008 at 8:29 PM

lol I actually use  that book for a  reference and another is Beasts  from him as well.  The artist for Freaks is also on Deviantart  with the username of  demonpuppy.

I'll check that out.  Thank you!
