Subject: Bridges

Hello,

I am looking for free a stone walking bridge similar to the one that Tablesaw has in the Free Stuff area but not quite so rustic looking. Does anyone know where I might find one?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Define "not as rustic"?

Brick instead of stones? Metal instead of wood? Bigger? What would you like?

I've got some time coming up, and it might be fun to model - lemme know what you're looking for - if you could post some images that would be a huge help.

Hello Thundering1,

I am looking for bridges that are very similar to the one in this image by DOM1:

or even like the one in this image (also by DOM1):

Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hello again,

Mazak -  thank you for the links. I did check these out before and picked up a couple of bridges but they are not quite like what I am looking for.

Thundering1 - if you can come up with something along the lines of those in the images it would be greatly appreciated.

This is only after an evening of playing around. Lemme know what changes you might want and I'll see if I can do them in the next day or so.

And just to let you know, it's big. Bigger WITH the ropes! -Lew ;-)

Hello Thundering1,

That bridge looks great! It is exactly the type of bridge I am looking for. As far as changes, the only thing that I would suggest is to extend the ends a bit so that there is a short flat section to connect to the main path, but that is extremely minor. I really appreciate your help and work on this.

Actually, I think I can do that just tonight - pretty simple!

Now, the model is just plainly textured like you see here with standard Vue shaders. Nothing custom about it if you wanted to take it in and texture it yourself.

The OBJ is completely BARE - o textures at ALL if you want it that way - plus the file size is smaller.

Something to think about - just lemme know.

Okay, looking again at it, it kinda looks dinky to me - you want me to try again with another version, or still have me extend the pathway on this one - which I'll still do anyway as a "just 'cuz".

Okay, howz about this/these?

Pulled out the sides of the original, and made the rope just cylindrical instead of multi-threaded - which alone added over 600k polys!
There's also another one I whipped up using splines. Not used to using splines for modeling like this, so it was a learning experience, but someone might like these models especially since they'd be free.

Lemme know whatcha think and I'll tinker some more tomorrow night.

Hi Thundering1,

Sorry to take so long to get back to you but work has a habit of getting in the way of things! I work fighting forest fires, so I can disappear for periods of time with little or no notice, especially at this time of year. So please don't take offence if I don't get back to you for a while.

Looking at your latest images, the bridge is looking just fantastic. I like the one with the lumpy walkway the most, but both versions look very good. They are perfect for what I am trying to do. The wider bridge is good, but I also liked the narrower version as well. That one would be very suitable for a walking path.

Once again I really appreciate all the time and effort you are putting into this.

Oh, I wasn't worried or anything - I suspected life jumped in there - didn't imagine fighting FIRES, though! (the world's most dangerous civilian job, BTW!)

Anyway, I apparently can't stop refiguring out how to go about modeling a bridge. Here's yet another one. I think I'm just gonna upload them ALL to my website, as well as a bunch of other models I've made as freebies for everyone to use.

Again, just a basic Vue shader - I think this is a version of mossy rock...?

I'll send out a link hopefully tomorrow evening.

Oh, and BTW - this one also has a bit of a lumpy walking surface.

thundering1 ( ) posted Sun, 11 May 2008 at 9:41 PM

Sorry this took a while - here's the models as OBJ - untextured. Enjoy, more will come to that page in the future.

Thundering1

Thank you for the work on the bridges. They are great and just what I was looking for.
